Posting video.

I'd like to start posting short video clips like i see on this site. Couple questions tho. What type of file(s) are they, are you recording in that format or converting and why no sound. Sorry if these seem like dumb questions, but coming from me, I'm not surprised. Any help and hints would be excellent. Thanks!

By the "Why no sound" hint I'll assume you mean clips like the type I post, so I'll focus on that, but I will remark that you can also upload actual video clips with sound here, tho I don't know how (I've never tried and it's also not commonly seen)

 

The format typically posted, and the one I work with, are .avif files, an evolution of the concept of gif; better resolution, quality and duration for a FAR less heavy file. Vastly superior to a gif in every way...except storage availability. You can't post them directly here like you would a picture. You'll have to upload them to an external site like catbox or do like me and set up a developer storage service in Cloudflare, which is free so long you don't past certain limits which you won't if you only use it for this site. 

 

Once stored, you'll have to copy the link of the avif and paste it here in the text box.

 

I record my clips using OBS and turn the resulting .mov/.mp4 into avifs using a program called Ffmpeg. I won't get deeper into how to use this tools but you can easily leanr how to. Setting everything up might take you some minutes but then everything becomes far easier and fast.
