How to make my nights darker? Like pitch black without a light source?

I really want to add a more hectic terrifying Skyrim experience so I'm adding a ton of mods that add extra hostile NPCs as well as increasing the number of werewolf and vampire spawns and the like, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to get my nights so that I literally can't see anything but the sky unless I have a light source on me or nearby (and even that shouldn't have a big radius).

I've tried pretty much everything, CoT+the weather patch by itself, CoT+ELaFX, CoT+RLO, and with and without ENB Realvision. I've tried editing the enb ini as best as I could but I still have nights where I can see perfectly clearly the whole way to the horizon.

For reference I saw this video a while back and it's the kinda darkness I want: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZcTDPPZSLk

At the beginning, where it's literally a black screen and the only light is the spell and the only thing that lets you see is the spell. Later on it gets brighter though which isn't what I want, I want it to stay pitch black without a light source.

AS said I've tried every combo I said above, always put the the night level to darkest where I could, always adjusted in-game brightness to min, adjusted screen brightness, adjusted my GFX card settings, and tried editing my enb ini. Does anybody have any advice on how I can go about doing this?

already tried realistic lightning overhaul? used it for some time, the night becomes really dark, i couldn't see anything without a torch

Yup, just what I was going to suggest. RLO will do it for you :)

There is a darker nights mod on the nexus that I played with for a while ...it has 6 levels of darkness, it does get a bit lighter on clear nights or  in the snowy regions but all in all, its dark... I used it for my vampire character... all living/undead creatures respond to the darkness as well, so your not the only one stumbling around in the dark, creatures with night vision, of course, wont stumble very much... its a really nice mod. I do believe its called "darker nights"

I think I know what you're talking about and I downloaded this but it honestly made no difference, I still could easily see everything around me.

Could it be the ENB I'm using? It's RealVision, but I tried disabling it before so I would just have CoT and RLO, but again it was still too bright.

Using RLO, doesn't seem to work either. I'll look for a mod, and link it here shortly.

EDIT: Found http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/11356/? Haven't tried it, but I'll give it a go when I play later.

I actually just tried this mod and I sitll see way too much for my personal preference =\

As for the realisitc nights I'm about to DL and try that, hopefully I'll have some positive results

Well I thought I'd update this to say thanks so very much JLF!

After leaving Saarthaal, walking out into a pitch black abyss, getting attacked by a Gibbering lunatic, and then running away to the sounds of a werewolf transformation of said lunatic(with enhanced werewolf sounds, of course) in pitch-black darkness, I finally answered the question; can mods turn Skyrim into a shit-my-pants-worthy horror experience?

The answer of course is yes.

Thanks very much once more. Now I only need to find the courage to un-pause the game.

Sounds like fun. Immersive Creatures at night can get pretty scary... or the Monster Mod. They both do a good job of adding more creatures to Skyrim.

I dunno bout you but turn your ingame brightness down. COT 8 is hyperdark. To the point of being pitch black and requiring torches etc etc

I used Realistic Nights for a while, it's default setting is pretty much pitch dark. Comes with a ton of plugins though so you'll want to merge them. My problem with a lot of these "realistic" darkness mods is they tend to entirely smother light sources, CoT is literally the worse offender I've come across for that. A naked flame is just that, it may have a variable light casting effect, but not like a dimmer switch.  I'd prefer that they subtracted light sources from the image space entirely than that.

If you use an ENB preset, either be prepared to do some tweaking, or find one that's balanced for use with these kinds of mods or you'll end up with that smothering blanket effect - maybe that's what you're looking for but I don't find it very immersive personally.
