Crash to Desktop due to Engine Fixes.

Hello, I have a problem. Immediately after Irileth's speech, I got a CTD. I checked the report and I think it's due to Engine Fixes. Normally, I would just remove the mod, but in this case, many other mods depend on Engine Fixes. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

This is indeed a bug in EngineFixes.dll. tbbmalloc is its replacement memory allocator, which can be turned off in its settings (toml) file.

It appears to be having issues with a BSLeafAnimNode node called "Yellowshrub02Flutter" in "Landscape\Plants\YellowShrub02.nif" used by form id 0x000AAE74. Form id 0x26005906 reference id 0x260B1D3B "Nythiel" from "Nythiel Abyssal Necromancer.esp" in form id 0x0000963D "WhiterunWatchtowerExterior02" might have cast a spell at or near this shrub. The spell was form id 0x11A53672 "Fałszywe życie" from "Adamant.esp".

So:

  1. Upgrade, downgrade or otherwise change Engine Fixes SSE.
  2. Toggle the state of the memory allocator fix in Engine Fixes SSE's settings file. Keep in mind that if it's on and you turn it off, it will most likely break a lot of things. If it's off and you turn it on, you should test to make sure RaceMenu is still working.
  3. Query your mod manager for which mod provides "Landscape\Plants\YellowShrub02.nif" and remove or otherwise change this file.
  4. Inspect the records mentioned here: the TREE, the NPC_ and the SPEL, and make sure there's no null references.

Thanks for the help. I think changing the memory allocation in Engine Fixes helped. I disabled it and nothing broke. Also, this time I was standing far away from Irileth during the speech and only ran to the tower. Maybe it was just a bug.

Today I had problems with Engine Fixes. Practically every launch resulted in a crash. Solving one problem caused another to cascade. I decided to completely remove Engine Fixes. Removing it solved the problem. I miss CS, but I somehow replaced it with ENB. I'm not saying Engine Fixes is a terrible mod. I just think it's too old and increasingly incompatible with newer mods.
