plutocene Posted March 16 Posted March 16 I've been using Lux/Lux via/Orbis for a long time but this setup has its issues. It uses its own parallax meshes which are more resource intensive to render and are to my understanding incompatible with PBR. To put this into perspective see the draw call analyzer analysis. While not a 1:1 representation it underscores the problem performance wise. Spoiler Since I use CS, switching to PBR from parallax would also make sense. However, apart from ripping out LUX and Orbis (keep Via?) beeing a massive undertaking, I'm not quite certain what lighting overhaul to switch to. I'm on the latest CS branch which excludes particle lights. Based on my research it would probably be True light https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/135488, but before I literally rip out the floor, I would appreciate some feedback on this topic.
traison Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Are you basing your request on the output from this Ultimate Drawcalls Analyzer app? If so, then: Define how "-20" FPS would work in practice. If the max triangles for you GPU is around 79 million per frame, but this tool says you need one with capacity for at least 509 million, you need a 6.5 times better GPU. This seems unrealistic in the current world where generational peformance increases are in the 5% ballpark, and GPU memory capacity is about to get cut in half because of shortages. What this seems to be claiming is that LUX was made for a computer that does not exist, and will not exist for the next 10 years, yet the mod itself is already several years old. I would test this in-game, rather than have a triangle-counting app tell me it's going to suck.

No, this is like I said, not an 1:1 representation, but an example of the impact. The app is new, not perfect and its meant as an illustration of the problem. Its well known that Lux is very performance heavy, increasing draw calls in particular. Based on my research and asking for recommendations, so far there seem to be 2 options utilizing the latest CS: Simple lighting overhaul (for Interiors - thus replacing Lux) but maintaining Lux Orbis and Lux Via https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/124634 potentially combining with window shadows ultimate (albeit thats heavy?) or True Light https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/135488 Which has indoor and outdoor (optionally) thus could replace Lux entirely, albeit I'd try to keep Lux Via for its scenery if practical. MLO2 is a third option, only if CS is 1.36 or below which is therefore not considered. Ancient ELFX not considered. Edited March 16 by plutocene
