FastestDogInTheDistrict Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Very quick query: Â Â - I recently set uGridsToLoad=5 as part of the "Speed and Stability Guide for ENB by tony971" process (*for reference, my .ini's are now Ewi's, available HERE. Yes, I had installed "Stable uGridsToLoad" before replacing my .ini's & altering this value. I also have SSME installed). Â Â - A uGridsToLoad setting does not seem to appear at all in my previous backup copy Skyrim.ini... which seems odd... Â Will this cause problems with savegames or with anything else?
gaggedgirl123 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 IF I remember right, Stable UGridsToLoad made it so you could change this setting in-game... not entirely sure though
judge0 Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Yes, it will cause problems with savegames. You need to document somewhere safe which saves run under what ugrid setting. Â If you didn't have the setting in the ini file previously, that would be set to the default of 5. (all missing ini entries run at default, by default). Â As for changing the ugrid setting, you need to start the game at the ugrid setting of the save file. Alt-Tab out to edit and save the ini to the new setting. Alt-Tab back to game, enter the console and reset the ini with "refreshini" {no quotes} Â The default value for uGridstoLoad is 5 and UExterior Cell Buffer is 36 Â There is a formula used to calculate the new value of uExterior Cell Buffer: (uGridstoLoad +1)x(uGridstoLoad+1) Â i.e. changing to 7 Â - Â (7+1)x(7+1)=64 so new uGridstoLoad of 7 would have a corresponding uExterior Cell Buffer of 64 Â Older hardware is NOT happy about these changes, my AMD HD4850 1GB will not run anything other than 5 and 36. Â Just be aware of this ahead of time. Â hope that helped
FastestDogInTheDistrict Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 So, if the default is 5, and my .ini now shows a value of 5 (and 36 cell buffer, which is what it was previously), there should be no problem as the value has not changed?
psammeticus Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 ^That should be correct, but I tend to be paranoid about the ini, so to keep defaults I tend to remove the line. Â I played around with the ugrids about six months ago just to find that I had to keep 5. I would have loved to have 7.
judge0 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 So, if the default is 5, and my .ini now shows a value of 5 (and 36 cell buffer, which is what it was previously), there should be no problem as the value has not changed? Â Yes, as they are defaults, there are no issues and no need to worry about save files. Â I forgot to mention last time that uGridstoLoad has to be odd numbers (3,5,7,9,11 etc)
FastestDogInTheDistrict Posted January 31, 2014 Author Posted January 31, 2014 Ah excellent - many thanks guys! And thank-you also for the additional explanation Judge - that is most helpful indeed!
