CTD involving hair meshes / SMP

I've encountered numerous CTDs all related to hair and SMP during grass caching, see e. g. crashlog attached. Tried a quick run around a bandit camp and sure enough CTD.

It seems to be related to hair meshes and SMP. Not a specific hair mesh, various ones involved (e.g., HairFemaleNord08, HairFemaleNord16, HumanBeard11,HairMaleNord13) come up. Not a specific NPC (although mostly bandits=most numerous=most probable to crash?) or other overhaul mod, various involved in logs. Not limited to a gender.

Made extensive changes to load order, haven't installed a new hair mod although someone else might ship them, new SMP fix 0.0.3 replacing smp crash fix.

 

Suggestions please?

Search through all nif files in all mods, including in BSA archives for "HairFemaleNord16" to find which mod is providing this file. I've made a tool that can do this search. It's available upon request.

Don't know what this fix is that you're talking about, but the old NPC hair crash fix was supposedly incorporated into SMP itself long ago; yet there's been cases where installing the crash/hair fix has still solved issues. I'm personally running the following:

Grass in general is a bit broken in Skyrim right now:

• NGIO has (or had) a race condition in cached grass resetting.
• Current version of CS causes a CTD if grass collisions are enabled.

Neither of these issues are what you're seeing. Your issue is with SMP failing to handle physics-enabled NPC hair. Just mentioning these as they're both quite easy to trigger, especially with SL.

This: I just checked the TOML file of the mod, NPCCrashFix, which its supposed to replace was set to false! That might be the cause or a contributing factor.

 

As for NGIO, yes, I had the pleasure of debugging its crashes before this, reverting back to 1.5.11 should fix this. Thanks for pointing out the CS issue, I'm running latest, so it would affect me. Whish I hadnt updated my load order...
