Imperfection Posted January 30, 2014 Posted January 30, 2014 Just an FYI if your looking at cleaning up some meshes, I have noticed that while working with fallout 3 nifs if you paste a block into another nif then material sometimes gets random name. If that random material name is scene root then Blender (2.49b) will import and export without error but you will have double scene root, second one will usually name Scene Root.00. To fix you can right click on second scene root.00 node and select crop to branch or change material name to blank before importing. The other thing is "loose" properties like the third image that come from using block remove instead of block remove branch while deleting mesh parts, solution is the same right click on scene root and select crop to branch, all the loose properties will be dumped from the nif. In this files case it went from 4.2MB in size to 1.2MB since there was a lot of them listed. I am pretty sure that these woudl also be dumped during a blender import/export. As Gera said the nodes under niskininstance are links back to bones that the shape is bound to, I deleted one once and the mesh caused CTD instantly for me. I only assume this is all still valid for skyrim nifs, but I have only worked with Fallout stuff, but I hope it will help some.
varenne Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 Thanks, and this is for Oblivion nifs. Never played or owned Fallout, no immediate drivers to buy Skyrim yet. Still lots to do in Oblivion...
