Looking for advice playing multiplayer online.

Hello. I'm looking to play Fallout 4 online with someone from a tabletop gaming group. We normally play Pathfinder and have some campaigns that are adults only and was trying to set up a group in Fallout as well and use the adult only mods from this forum. The problem is that from what I've looked up so far, it seems any multiplayer mods are dead and non functional. I downloaded the Fallout 4 Together mod through Nexus and all the prerequisite mods as well as the multiplayer client and server programs with the mod organizer tool on my computer and the computer of the other person I'm trying to play it with. I was wondering if I could trick those or any other multiplayer mods into working even if outdated or maybe even brute force a multiplayer connection by remotely connecting to the other PC over IP addresses? If anyone has any other ideas on online multiplayer for F4 or if there's an alternative Fallout game that would work better for what I'm trying to do, I would appreciate that as well.
