Issue connecting to the site?

I tried to get on the site via search results, but it wouldn't leave the results page, it would just load for a bit then stop. I then tried to open the site from my history, and the page that opened was completely blank. I thought maybe the site is down, but I checked the status and saw it's working fine. I then turned on a VPN, and can suddenly connect.
Is anyone else having connection issues that require a VPN to fix? Does this mean I could be ISP blocked or something? If it's a regional thing, is anyone else in Canada having this issue?
