AhuwgaZ Posted October 10, 2025 Posted October 10, 2025 View File (Female) NPC Overhaul Maker (Linux) Description: Turn those sexy generic follower mods into your own female NPC Overhaul in just 3 Easy Steps! (SteamOS / Linux Only) This will use the FACE, EYES, MOUTH, HAIR COLOR, and BROWS, from your follower mod, combine them with Modpocolypse NPCs v4's SMP hair using SkyPatcher. This works by creating a reservoir of NPC IDs from Modpocolypse Skyrim, and a reservoir of NPC IDs from your follower mods, smashing them together in an intelligent format. HOWEVER! To do this, we have to edit the .ESP from each follower mod to remove their hair. Then we have to remove the follower mods hair from their face gen meshes. Finally, we can create a skypatcher file that makes your very own NPC overhaul. Relax, once you watch the video, it looks a lot easier than it sounds. WARNING: This will render your followers unavailable in Skyrim. So make a backup. Important Notes: Choose followers that use your default skin color. (Most quality follower mods have this option) You start using this with UBE, Furry, Anime, or any other alien race, your skyrim will probably be cursed. Doesn't support argonian, khajiit, or children... probably. Video Tutorial is me doing the Western_Style (Long Format Sped Up) - Balance it with the reading the Written Directions. I urge you to rebuild the python library with the rebuild script in ./tools. It's simply best practice for safety. (Delete the python folder first) Written Directions: Spoiler Step 1.) [ Prepping Your Follower ESP files ] A.) Copy my xEdit script, _custom_npc_overhaul_prep.pas, into sseEdit/Edit Scripts folder. Note: Make sure you have also mteFunctions.pas (mteFunctions also included in other mods like UBE 2.0) B.) Run xEdit. C.) Load my _Custom_NPC_Overhaul.esp (Included in this mod), then load your follower mods underneath it. D.) Select all of your follower mods in xEdit. E.) Run my my xEdit script. ( Right click on the selected mods -> Apply Script > _custom_npc_overhaul_prep ) F.) xEdit will output a bunch of NPC names, races, and ID numbers; leave xEdit open so that you can copy these into my app later. Step 2.) [ Prepping Your Follower FaceGen Meshes ] A.) Run the included App. (After, you download NifOptmizer and place it in ./tools first) B.) Select Process FaceGen. C.) Select Your Mod Folder location; where your follower folders are stored. Example: ( /mod organizer 2/mods/ ) D.) Check Mark all of the follower mod folders that you applied my xEdit script to in step 1. E.) Let the app do its thing, which is automatically search for face gen meshes and remove the hair. Step 3.) [ Making the Mod ] A.) In the App, select Create SkyPatch B.) Select Your Profile: - Custom 1 - Custom 2 - Custom 3 - Load Profile: Load your saved profiles, overwriting the current ones - Restore to Default: Factory Settings - Clear all profiles C.) Enter the 6 Digit ID BaseID Codes for any NPC you wish to avoid editing, such as 017934 (Frea), pulled from the wiki D.) Copy and Paste the ID codes from your xEdit console that the script output into the app. Click OK. E.) After the app sorts your followers according to race, it MAY ask you to manually sort some of the ones that don't have an eligible race. F.) If you are done, click NO. G.) If you wish to save the profile, click YES. This will save the reservoir pools so that you can regenerate a new random overhaul later, if you don't like the current one. H.) Install the created .zip in your Mod Manager. You are done, enjoy your NPC overhaul. Questions: Spoiler What is Custom_NPC_Overhaul.esp? Just duplicates the default races into a custom race that doesn't have any hair. We need this because some older NPC follower mods, use vanilla races, which will default to vanilla hair. Proper modern follower mods use custom races, but let's be fair, some older follower mods still rock. Script Heavy? SkyPatcher does this once, stores it to save, and that's it, unless it's changed. So it's a run and done according to documentation. This seems niche, who's it for? It's for me. However, I know the idea might interest others who have a few modding hours under their belt. This seems like a lot of work? It's not for everyone, but compared to manually doing an NPC overhaul, that could take a few weeks of work, this can be done in minutes. How do I know if this is legit? Well, you can check the code. If you don't trust my compile of python environment, just delete ./Python and run the reinstaller.sh Can I run the script multiple times, the app multiple times? Yes. It won't hurt anything after the first run. It's pretty robust. Why NifOptimizer, what's the python script do? Our python script uses a app called pyffi to edit the head model .nif files, removing the hair. But, pyffi hasn't been updated in years... an elegant tool for a more civilized age... So, we have to downgrade the .nif to LE to edit it with pyffi, then we turn it back into a SE .nif, that's what NifOptimizer is used for. What about supporting Beards of Power? It's possible to swap to beards of power, by tweaking a few lines of code, but that's not in my plans anytime soon, if ever. Can this run in Windows? Theoretically, yes, but it's one of those things where if you're asking the question... But if you must, WSL2 is where you need to search. I got an error on FaceGen? Sometimes these things happen, my app didn't remove the hair from one of the meshes. Check log.txt, then remove it manually with NifSkope. Sometimes false positive. Can I merge follower mods with ZEdit Then do this? Maybe I'll mess with it some more and see if I can find a fix. Rarely, an NPC head may be half-distored. (Means that the ESP has headparts that don't match the head model) I was going to do a video to fix this, but it's really easy, either do one of 3 things: - Delete the mod associated with the NPC (Ctrl + F skypatcher files for NPC base id code) (easiest but restores the default face) - CTRL+F npc id code in skypatcher files, swapping the npc edit to another face, then delete offending mod (second easiest) - Fix headparts in xEdit to match their headparts in their .esp FaceGen Folder wherever their mod folder is located (Best way) If you find a bug / error, let me know in comments. I'll try and fix it. Submitter AhuwgaZ Submitted 10/10/25 Category Regular Mods Requirements Regular Edition Compatible Install Instructions
ni1by2 Posted October 29, 2025 Posted October 29, 2025 This is super cool. If its just a python script, would it not work on Windows as well? Any environment variables or other gotchas I should look out for? Live farodadestins work, but also would LOVE to have a smp hair version of Dibella's Blessing https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/82606 1

Live farodadestins work, but also would LOVE to have a smp hair version of Dibella's Blessing https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/82606 It's a question I think I'll get a lot of. The answer to, "will this work on windows?" "will this work on linux?" is yes, but can you figure out how to do it? That's another question entirely. One of the ONLY uses I actually like java is that it works out of the box for both windows and linux. Python, too, is like this. However, python by can't run without something telling it to run. That's why if you ever download an AI tool like oobabooga, they come with both a *.sh file and a *.bat file to run it. But since I don't want to do that, if you want to -really- run it on windows, you need to find vmware workstation (free version), and then run a virtual linux machine. OR, run a dual boot. That's the easiest way. There's also WSL2, windows built-in Ubuntu, which you could use command line to get this to run but honestly, I hate working with WSL. You could try asking Grok or ChatGPT to rewrite the bash script in Windows Batch, but that also comes with caveats. That said, if you don't play online games with anti-cheat stuff, I see very little reason to stay on Windows. Linux has an app that runs windows programs like adobe, linux runs many games faster than windows now, and it doesn't spy on you or try to sell you shit. There's loads of tutorials how to use it and just ask AI if you have a question. Skyrim has a linux installer for Mod Organizer that works great, and community shaders will soon overtake ENB with an app called NAK that makes sure Skyrim has all the .net stuff you need to run mods. Running on ProtonGE also gives you hdr abilities. And a little secret, Microsoft uses linux for their servers and cloud storage. So when you ask, can it run on windows, my real response is, why?
ni1by2 Posted November 4, 2025 Posted November 4, 2025 Hahaha totally off-tropic, but you're preaching to the converted my man. I am busy researching how to migrate my PC to Manjaro. Skyrim modding was the final thing that was holding me back from making the jump - hearing horror stories of xEdit and DynDOLOD and bodyslide all being tough or impossible to set up. But it seems like it can be done, so.... I'll give it a shot. 1

Haha, just do "sudo apt install steam wine winetricks protontricks", then "MO for Linux" (This will launch Mod organizer from steam automatically, download mods automatically from nexus, and install skse if you want, then use "NAK" to install skyrim dependencies, aka .net). After that, you're set, although you might have to run dyndolod or bodyslide with valve's gamescope, opengl thing, but amd users have more luck then us NVidia users. Oh and for others wondering, I'm about 50% done rebuilding mod lists, then I'll get back to updating the mods.
