Balmung889 Posted October 3, 2025 Posted October 3, 2025 Introduction: I play the Special Edition version (downgrading). I also blocked downloads of any AE updates. I use Vortex to install mods. I use the Alternate Start mod to skip the intro. I played months ago without any problems. Now I started a new game with the same mods and I'm having the following problems: 1) The game runs with English voice acting. I'm Italian, and the game is translated into Italian. Last time, when I changed the game language on Steam, a download started, and the game went back to 100% Italian. I did the same thing, and it doesn't work. 2) The "Fertility Mode" mod is installed. When I start a new game, the game starts with some characters already pregnant, including Dragonborn. I don't want this, and I can't find the setting to disable it. Even if I disable the mod and its plugins, the mod still seems to work in a new game. What can I do? 3) I have a graphics glitch where there are blurry horizontal lines. I stumbled upon a mod that fixed this a few months ago, but I don't remember the name. Do you know what it is?

Note however that this will install whichever version of Skyrim is the latest. 1 hour ago, Balmung889 said: Even if I disable the mod and its plugins, the mod still seems to work in a new game. What can I do? Do a sanity check and make sure the files are actually gone. Sounds to me like you either didn't actually disable it, or your mod manager messed up.

I launched the game from the original launcher, and when I then launched the game via skse on Vortex, the game remained 100% translated. 10 hours ago, traison said: Do a sanity check and make sure the files are actually gone. Sounds to me like you either didn't actually disable it, or your mod manager messed up. How do I do it? There's not much doubt about disabling mods. I click "Enabled" (green) and it changes to "Disabled" (gray). It's as if the game doesn't register the mod's absence. Even the game I played months ago had a bug. I was playing as a thief, and the game didn't register my crimes. When I returned to town, I was no longer wanted. The only mod that could cause the bug was Crime Overhaul. I tried both disabling and uninstalling it, but the bug persisted. Crime Overhaul is now uninstalled, and fortunately, this bug doesn't seem to appear in new games. I'm thinking of reinstalling it since I want to play as a murderer this time. In any case, as I said before, and as you said, it's as if the mods remain in the game even if I disable or uninstall them. Is there a way to make the game recheck/update installed/uninstalled mods? 12 hours ago, Balmung889 said: 3) I have a graphics glitch where there are blurry horizontal lines. That alone would be enough to easily find the mod that fixes it. I'd like to add a fourth issue, which, despite the title, is a known issue. 4) Innkeepers have "black faces." I know what causes the problem, but I don't know how to fix it. Basically, there's a conflict between this mod https://www.loverslab.com/files/file/11286-loansharks-of-skyrim-se/ and those that modify character appearance. How do I resolve the conflict?

Well I didn't want to say this since this is not the popular opinion on LL and certainly not the Nexus, but if you ask me Vortex is not reliable. It works as long as you only install mods; when you start removing or moving things there's (IMO) a relatively large chance files get left behind, or the wrong file remains linked to the Data directory. So to put that another way, there is doubt about mods being disabled. Edit: Maybe there should be a disclaimer on this. It's been a long time since I tested Vortex. There's been a few posts here on LL over the recent years where things might have gone wrong because of Vortex, but there's always been room for user error as well. So probably the approach to Vortex should not be "avoid" but rather "trust, but verify". 35 minutes ago, Balmung889 said: How do I do it? Since you're using Vortex, just check the Skyrim Data directory. Make sure none of the files you just disabled show up. 35 minutes ago, Balmung889 said: Regarding this, do you know the name of the glitch? Never heard of or seen horisontal blurry lines in my 14 years in Skyrim. 35 minutes ago, Balmung889 said: Innkeepers have "black faces." Usually the reason you see these issues when modding Skyrim is because the plugin and the data of 2 mods are not in the same order: Facegen data from mod A gets overwritten by facegen data from mod B, when plugin from mod A overwrites NPC_ records in mod B. More than few available actions/operations (including activate/enable) seems to require double checking results what to me contradicts main purpose - "making user's life easier". App not only looks childish - it falls apart under its own weight. 12 hours ago, Balmung889 said: Innkeepers have "black faces." I know what causes the problem, but I don't know how to fix it. Assuming there are no problems with plugin records yet still faces are black - I may have an idea worth checking - make sure that FaceGenData (inside meshes, textures are safe to pack) are not packed into BSAs. For some reason, SSE 1.6.1170 appears (for me at least) has problem with FaceGen meshes if packed, no idea why - even if I re-generate them with CK, I cannot pack them as they will result in black faces.
