Diamond Skin and custom races?

Recommended Posts

Posted

I'm still working on my migration from 1.5.97 to 1.6.170 using MO2.

I'm currently facing the problem that the skin texture of my two custom races

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/22499

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/16854

They don't work, aka they look kind of "gritty." I use "diamond skin," and it works perfectly for the vanilla races and their UBE versions.

Spoiler

The skin in the first picture ("deep elf" race) looks like this for all vanilla races BEFORE installing the "Diamond Skin"... I must have done something wrong when installing "cbbe" (or 3ba)?

I'm a bit confused about how to tackle the problem.

- Find and fix the original "installation error" from cbbe... although I don't even know what it is.

- Use a different "skin" version like "BnP"... the "mecha skin" for the deep elf race is based on "bnp"

- Look for a patch for "diamond skin" - that covers both of my custom races.

I would be grateful for any help.

  1. Install More Informative Console.
  2. Set your race to one that has a broken texture UV.
  3. prid 14
  4. Use MIC to locate the naked skin armor:
Race -> Skin -> Armor Addon -> NakedTorso (or similar) -> Female Skin -> Texture Set -> Diffuse

Then install a UNP variant of Diamond Skin where the custom race expects to find it. Probably have to copy the textures there yourself.

Edit: If the skin texture points to the vanilla directory, then you'll have change the race's NakedTorso armor to point to somewhere else, so that you can have both a CBBE and a UNP body texture installed at the same time.

  1. Installieren Sie eine informativere Konsole.
  2. Stellen Sie Ihr Rennen auf eines mit einer gebrochenen UV-Textur ein.
  3. adj 14
  4. Verwenden Sie MIC, um die nackte Hautpanzerung zu lokalisieren:
    Rasse -> Haut -> Rüstungs-Addon -> NakedTorso (oder ähnlich) -> Weibliche Haut -> Textur-Set -> Diffus

Thanks,

It took me a while to get used to using this "console"... interestingly, I had already installed it, but I didn't know what to do with it.

From what I see in the data displayed, the "Nord" race skin is used for the "Deep Elf" race... which is incorrect.

I installed a dedicated skin mod for this "custom" race, but it's "somehow" not being applied correctly.

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/103895

It was never actually planned to apply the "diamond" skin to the "Deep Elf" race.

What confuses me even more is that in my second-to-last install with the "Deep Elves" (aka Dwemer), I had no issues with the skins.

Sort of, it's probably expecting you to use a UNP based body for your player character too. If you do what I suggested in my previous post and have the custom race look for its body textures somewhere else, you can have a UNP based custom race while using CBBE on your player character.

That mod has the textures in "Textures\deep elf\Female", so the reason why it's not being applied is because the version of deep elf race that you have installed isn't compatible with this mod.

I found the error... an incorrect selection in the "second" part of the "Deep Elf" race mod.

For skin textures, among other things, to work correctly -> the "Essentials Patcher" is required.

During installation, the "preferred" skin texture is also requested - but I hadn't selected one... neither versions of "cbbe" nor "unp" - and of course, it works with "cbbe" as well.

The comments on the "patch" (second "red" box - the last section) gave me the right idea - to look at the installation step by step.

Of course (despite the correct position in the left part of MO2), nothing can be overwritten - if it isn't even selected during installation!

The "Mecha Skin" was created specifically for the "Deep Elves" - but it only works if the "Essentials Patcher" is installed correctly (i.e., with the main skins selected)!

The finished result (with the template loaded) looks like this:

Your help was important for me - because it helped me after the initially failed installation -> to pull myself together again and to search more specifically for the cause

💖

axo:

I made the same installation error with the second race mod ("The Ancient Falmer")

:relieved:

Hey would you have similar tips to install BNP skin on a custom race?

Is RSV absolutely necessary?

...to install BNP skin on a custom race?

  1. Use MIC to find the Armor Addon of the naked armor.
  2. Find the body mesh associated with this ARMA record.
  3. Check whether or not this ARMA record is unique to this custom race.
  4. Check whether or not the body mesh in the ARMA record is unique to this custom race.
  5. Open the body mesh in NifSkope and check where its textures are and whether or not they're unique to this custom race.

If the body mesh is not unique for this custom race, then:

  1. Copy the current body mesh somewhere else. Path doesn't matter as long as it's unique.
  2. Proceed as if the ARMA record was shared, even if it wasn't.

If the ARMA record is shared with other races, then:

  1. Create a copy of the ARMO and ARMA records belonging to the naked skin armor.
  2. Change the new ARMO record to use the new ARMA record.
  3. Add the custom race to the race list of the new ARMA record, remove the other entries.
  4. Assign the new ARMO record as the naked skin armor of the custom RACE.
  5. Change the nif path in the new ARMA to where you copied the body mesh previously.

If the textures are not unique for this custom race, then:

  1. Open the body mesh in NifSkope.
  2. Change its texture paths. The path doesn't matter as long as it's unique.

Now you have a custom race with a unique naked skin armor and a unique mesh pointing to unique textures. Install "BNP skin" where the naked armor mesh is expecting to find its textures. Consider automating skin installations and bodyslide body builds for this custom race - a simple batch script with copy commands might be enough.

No idea what RSV is. I very much doubt it would be needed for anything here.

Thank you! How about the face? I read that you can't do anything for the face remaining the same texture because the head model may be different from BNp

Head mesh is defined in the RACE record as headparts. Same deal with these as with the naked skin ARMO records above. Make sure they're unique for your custom race, and you gain full control over it to do whatever you want.
