deathmorph Posted August 4, 2025 Posted August 4, 2025 Hi everyone, I’ve noticed that every time I gain XP (for example after killing an enemy or discovering a new location), there’s a short blip or beep sound being played. I checked some gameplay videos on YouTube, and that sound doesn’t seem to exist in the vanilla game. My question: Has anyone else heard this sound? Is it part of the vanilla audio design, or clearly caused by a mod? And if it’s mod-related – does anyone know which one is responsible and how I can turn it off? What I’ve already checked or ruled out: I use Cinematic Sounds – Complete Collection, but I’ve disabled all XP and discovery sounds in its MCM menu. I also renamed or replaced the sound files that seemed responsible (like ui_experience_up.wav), but the sound still plays. The sound/FX folder doesn’t contain any other relevant files besides the expected ones. Since I’m running around 600 mods, I can’t test them all one by one. So I’d appreciate it if anyone could help identify where this annoying blip comes from. Thanks in advance!
deathmorph Posted August 4, 2025 Author Posted August 4, 2025 Here’s a video to illustrate the issue. The beep occurs at second 18. It’s much louder and more noticeable on my system, which makes it more distracting. But the point is for you to hear what sound I’m talking about. https://streamable.com/0y3zqx
Joe_Oni Posted August 5, 2025 Posted August 5, 2025 the "dunnn" sound is the vanilla game sound. at nexus there is a file in the optional files that replaces the sound file with a blank file (no sound) https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/35494?tab=files

I didn't mean the "boom" sound, but the blip or beep that you hear. It comes with every XP gain, with every shot that hits an enemy. It's annoying. The "boom" when discovering a location isn't that annoying; if it were removed, it would be a nice additional side effect. PS: Ah, very nice. Leveling up and a few other unnecessary background noises are gone. Unfortunately, the blib with every XP gain is still there, as is the aforementioned signal when a location is discovered. The latter, as mentioned, is optional, but not mandatory. It only occurs once for each location. Edited August 5, 2025 by deathmorph
Joe_Oni Posted August 5, 2025 Posted August 5, 2025 had to put on my headphones, sorry never heard that before... heavy modded fallout is a pain, I've got over 700 mods myself with a bunch merged and dummy files 1

It appears to be the Mod Fixer. I asked the modder there to take a look; the beeping is driving me crazy. 🤪 PS: If anyone also finds the sounds (e.g. on XP gain) distracting: the Fixer mod author has already released a patch on request that disables them. It's available under the Optional Files – might be useful for some of you. Edited August 6, 2025 by deathmorph
