Armor Conversion - Collar above the neck - Weighting (Solved)

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hi,

In need of help again. I am making this armor conversion. The collar is above the neck. Not usually something I see.

Only Spine02 weight is on it. It clips ingame horribly with both low and high weight. It does not follow head movements.

Anybody know how I can fix this?

I tried to import the vanilla head as refence and copy those weights. But then the collar dissapeared.

Maybe with High Poly Head instead?

  1. Disable current reference, if there is one.
  2. File -> Load reference.
  3. From File
  4. Find a head somewhere. Vanilla head probably works. I use HPH.
  5. Select the mesh that contains the collar.
  6. Bones (tab)
  7. Select the Head node only.
  8. Shape -> Copy Selected Weights, use defaults
  9. Ctrl + S

Restart BodySlide or at the very least reselect the project after altering it in OS. If a mesh is invisible in BS, restart BS.

Almost exactly what I did. And the result is the same.

Strange. The collar can be seen from distance (Still Clipping). But when I near the NPC they dissapear.

Probably the same bug that's in some TAWOBA (Edit: 3BA variant) gorgets and helmets. Their NiSkinData offsets are way off, and when that node is outside what you see on your screen the mesh its associated with is no longer rendered. This can be checked and adjusted in NifSkope.

It's possible you need an old version of NifSkope to do it. I seem to recall there was some issue associated with this in newer versions - like not being able to see where the NiSkinData is and having to work blind.

Easiest way to test if you have this issue is to move the camera around. Look up, down, left, right. You can work out where the node is when you see it disappearing. If it's purely a range thing then it's not the same problem.

Edit again: Based on your screenshots for instance, the node might be near the feet of your character. When the feet are not visible, the collar disappears. Correct?

Absolutely correct. As soon as the feet dissapears then the collar is gone.

How would You fix this? - Can I attach the nif's?

This is beyond my knowledge. Never heard of this before.

Of course not every day that something is made for the head and included in the body nif.

Okay. So now the collar stays. But the metal in the collar dissapears at the feet..

Progress...

Edit.: Idiot. I had not edited the metal collar.

Dude You again saved me from hours of experimenting. Better write this one down.

Must be the Head translation that gets transferred when we copy weight.

I feel like I should have seen this issue everywhere if this was the case. There's probably a 3rd component to this if so.

Edit: Then again, I think it has always been some component near or on the head that's been broken like this. Just seems odd that something that appears to be intended for rendering optimization would be connected to weightpainting. A bug perhaps, or an artifact of the head import in OS?
