Amber02000 Posted July 17, 2025 Posted July 17, 2025 Just as the title says, I want to know how folks are doing who are running COTR. I had been working on COTR conversions for different mods a while back before life issues took me away. I'm now back but I'm unsure if I should continue with these conversions. I have not actually tried a full playthrough with COTR because I often spend a lot more time working on different mods, so i wanted to hear back from others who've tried. How does COTR play with your modlists? I'm worried that there will be a bunch of little things that makes COTR hard to play with. COTR has better presets, but HPH looks plenty good itself. What do you think? is the effort for cotr conversions worth it? I personally would want my mod list to be as stable as possible without introducing unecessary instability.
plutocene Posted July 17, 2025 Posted July 17, 2025 Hi there, so CoTR is mainly for the player character (very, very few NPC adaptations), while High poly heads apply to everyone and is standard. You can run CoTR and HPH and UBE at the same time, I do in fact. I do not have any stability issues and am not aware of any bugs. I use CoTR for my current personal Serana replacer. Spoiler The only issue you will have is the lack of texture support, Bits and Pieces has a patch, otherwise it will cause ugly neck seams when using other texture packs. Since the body is 3BA, no suprises there. Daxoss is working with CoTR, so contact him/her directly here, he/she can probably tell more. You may also want to check out UBE, https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/92989 the "new" head and body replacer that has build up a significant following. Unfortunately, I cannot find a discord link and my privileges are too low to generate an invite. Imo, that may be the better choice over CoTR but you do you.

I am mostly concerned with making mods for cotr. I was working on adapting yps to cotr as well as other mods like blushing when aroused. I was worried that I'd run into increasingly more difficulty changing new mods to cotr. If i decide to work on cotr the first thing ill do is adapt mods like High poly Head SMP 0.25 into cotr. I'm just worried it'll be a never ending task, especially like you said with ube becoming more popular. The work I do for COTR might eventually be pointless.

Oh no madame, we are not going to delve into a philosophical discussion on purpose and meaning. You asked is CoTR buggy, is HPH "better" and is it more stable. I answered these questions to the best of my ability having created a mod with COTR, and pointed you to the only person I know of, who might have more to say on this topic with authority. Whether or not the work on COTR is pointless depends entirely on your definition of purpose. Luckily for you I have a master degree in philosophy, thus I feel qualified to answer this as well. Do you want to mod because you like COTR and it has limitations that your mods will enable it to overcome? A Sisyphos task, of never ending ports of other works, none of your own making? And the reward in the end a few hundred downloads and "nobody" really cares? Or, do you want to mod because you want recognition, like Caliente or Elinora? In regards to COTR, the latter is out of the question, it was always niece and is now slowly fading into obscurity, with new replacers like UBE in the spotlight. Bottom line, purpose is what you define it is for you.

Mostly I wanted to create work because I'd like mods to work in a certain way and I don't mind sharing the work. I'm not really to interested in other things like recognition. So for me, I'd only continue to work on a mod if I wanted to use such a mod. In this case, I think I wont continue the work I had been doing for COTr. If I spend time working on cotr, I can't spend that time on other projects and time is a very limited resource.

Whenever I find something that I could do, I tend to weigh in on whether I would use it and if the time invested is in relation to the expected outcome as well. Plus, being in the spotlight has its downsides, Imagine having to give support to thousands of people, answering the same questions over and over ugh... Looking forward to what you will cook up.
