help with crash by Racemenu

I was able to solve the "hedgehog" problem—that was definitely an SMP issue.

-

Now I'm having trouble using the race menu with this mod.

crash-2025-07-16-00-05-39-REPORT.txt

I select the race and load a pre-made present (for NORD) -> CtD

When applying the default settings for the faces, I don't get a CtD.

On my 1.5.97 installation, I was able to combine the selected Nord present with the ToC race without any problems.

The preset you're applying is a RM preset (i.e. a jslot file), not a face preset? The crash log seems to tell a different story.

It's having issues with the BSDismemberSkinInstance node in a BSDynamicTriShape called "FemaleHeadDoC". This looks like a facegen mesh, since its parent is apparently a BSFaceGenNiNodeSkinned.

I think what I'd do in this case is use Process Monitor from Sysinternals (Microsoft). Have it monitor file IO traffic, filtered for paths ending with ".nif". See if it tried to load a facegen mesh just before the crash. If it did then the question is why, and is it supposed to do that. If you find a facegen mesh, try rebuilding it in the CK to see if it changes the situation any.

I'm trying to connect the "race" linked in the previous post to an RM preset (char-present in a json file).

https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/30941

It seems strange anyway that after selecting a race, I only have one fixed "preset" (for the face) – meaning no further selection is possible.

(unlike other races like "Deep Elf" or others)

-

If I now go to the "Presets" menu item (top right of the screen) and press "F9" to access the installed "CharGen" -> the CtD is activated as soon as I select one... I sometimes see the changed character for 2-3 tenths of a second.

-

Since the "CharGen" works for the vanilla races as well as the other additional races (like "Deep Elf") -> the problem is probably primarily due to a conflict between the race mod and the face gen system.

-

But if I have to rework the race mod using CK... that's far beyond my capabilities... then I'll have to write off the mod for Sykrim 1.6.1170

Headparts yes, that's what I'm thinking too. But I would still be curious what role the facegen mesh plays here. Perhaps the facegen mesh we see in the crash log is the default one you get after selecting the DoC race - if there wasn't a default preset, you'd get the unmorphed potato-head mesh.

Unfortunately I think this is a problem I'd have to see for myself to figure out.

I'd love to rework this race mod for myself... I don't like those extreme fingernails at all - which I can't deactivate in the race menu.

I wouldn't mind the face preset at all - as long as I could replace it with any Nord present.

(although the "Diana" present represents this single-person race very well in my opinion)

The really interesting thing is the race's own magic system - I don't know of anything comparable.

This would actually motivate me to start the extremely difficult learning curve with the CK!

Just had a look at DoC. The claws can be easily removed:

  1. Open Daughters of Coldharbour.esm in xEdit.
  2.  [05] Daughter of Coldharbour.esm (9A6254C5) \ Armor \ 050345D2 <SkinNakedDoC>
  3. Remove the reference to NakedClawsDoC from the Armature list.

One problem however, there's no mention of FemaleHeadDoC, nor is there any head presets included. The preset that is causing issues is coming from some other mod you have installed. I've made a tool for searching for strings in Skyrim. It can find it. I'll send you the link if you want it. You can also do the search with something like Notepad++, as long as the file is not hiding inside a packed BSA.

Habe gerade bei DoC nachgeschaut. Die Krallen lassen sich leicht entfernen:

  1. Öffnen Sie Daughters of Coldharbour.esm in xEdit.
  2. [05] Tochter von Coldharbour.esm (9A6254C5) \ Rüstung \ 050345D2 <SkinNakedDoC>

There is a second mod called DoC - it is possible that one of the existing character gene was linked earlier (in 1.5.97)

Thanks for the tool linked in the PM.

I had already thought about deleting the folder with the batches (or better yet, moving the presents)... and then re-downloading and installing the Diana present.
