What Were People Expecting from This Game?

I've seen some discourse online from quite a few people saying that they are disappointed with the game overall.

 

I for one find the game VERY linear and I expected a lot more freedom of choice and different outcomes. It seems that your choices only really effect the girl's likeness towards you but in reality, even that becomes negligible because it's really the grading of your photos that's going to make or break progress. It's unfortunate because it honestly feels like the story only gets in the way of the point of the game, to take photos.

 

Which brings me to another point - the game's HEAVY emphasis on photo taking. I guess I didn't realize that this would be the main gameplay loop. I thought taking photos was just a part of the overall dating sim experience. To be fair I haven't really played any dating sims before, but having played many RPGs and a few MMOs I was assuming something along the line of how a lot of companion relationships work in those games except deeply expanded on considering that's the selling point of the game, or so I thought?

 

I don't know. The one thing this game does not disappoint on is the visuals. I just recently got an RTX 4090 rig and wow I am eating this game up with how beautiful the ladies are. But at this point I almost wish this game was just DOAX4 with the visuals it has and its current game play loop just being a part of a larger gaming experience that also brings back the volleyball, butt battles, and even the jet ski races from X2. Plus, also include the deep relationship aspect I thought this game would deliver.

 

What are your thoughts on the game? What were you expecting and did the game deliver?

Kinda disappointed with it. Expected more like Dimensions and Paradise. Volleyball, the island resort experience and those other things. I'll see if I can grab X2 instead.

This "boss" thing they put in just isn't DOAXy.

I just thought there wasn't much to do except a lot of talking. I was glad that you could at least take pictures, as a person who likes to do VP that was perfect for me. And I think they put the photo system in because people who play DOAXVV take hundreds of pictures a day of their favorite characters.

 

They showed all the mini games everywhere and then you could only play them a few times, not even an option in the menu for mini games, so you can play the games all the time. 😧 That was disappointing.

 

 

But it was interesting to see more of the DOA characters. I thought it was good and interesting, but there is still far too much missing.

 

Actually, I just wish for a new DOAX With all the mini games from the old Games such as jet skis And maybe even walk around a bit with the character on the island. Such a beautiful island, so little done with it.

And I think in these days such a game would be very well received Especially on Steam.

Haven't played it yet but it sounds like it's effectively gravure simulator similar to that super sonico game which is right up my alley.

Felt like this should have been part of an actual DOAX4 game rather than sold separately. With the new graphics engine this never could have been integrated into DOAXVV, but at the same time it probably doesn't make sense to make a F2P sequel to DOAXVV with this in it while DOAXVV is still printing money. Just seems like a strange proposition for a game all around: isn't good enough to stand alone as paid VN/dating sim, but also doesn't have the infrastructure to be a F2P gacha game, either. Not sure what Koei Tecmo were smoking when they greenlit this.

I remember on the reveal livestream they advertised the game like it was some grand evolution in dating-sims. It was not

I was expecting nude mods for Honoka and Elise.

I bought this game right after it came out and was incredibly disappointed. It's so terrible and lacks substance that I have no motivation to even delve into it. Unless KT releases some decent DLC, this game feels like a scam and a half-finished product.

The game isn't what I expected but it's still a shame that there aren't nude mods for all the characters.
