deathmorph Posted May 11, 2025 Posted May 11, 2025 The damage the musket does, displayed in the Pipboy. Is that the damage per turn? Or the total damage at maximum charge?
Count Chocula Posted May 13, 2025 Posted May 13, 2025 If I knew, I'd just say so. Have you compared to the damage of a 1-crank musket?

Use the musket very rarely. But since I found one that allowed five times, I would try it. I just can't assess how which discharge works.
Miauzi Posted May 14, 2025 Posted May 14, 2025 Vor 1 Stunde sagte deathmorph: Ich bevorzuge Projektilwaffen. Die Muskete benutze ich sehr selten. Da ich aber eine gefunden habe, die fünfmal schießt, würde ich es versuchen. Ich kann nur nicht beurteilen, wie welche Entladung funktioniert. The musket doesn't fire five times, but rather a single shot, which consumes between one and five energy cells... meaning this single shot is "charged" BEFORE it is fired. This makes this "one-shot" laser rifle extremely slow for the user... strictly speaking, it's absolute garbage and probably only in the game because the developers were "fun" with it. One should consider the importance of the Revolutionary War of 1776-79 in the public perception of history... why is the newly formed settler militia named after the "Minute Men"? I also thought at the beginning that I had found something great (a laser musket) in front of the museum in Concord. But if you progress quickly along the main path of the game, you'll meet the "Brotherhood of Steel." After the Paladin mission, you'll receive a REAL laser weapon—the difference is equivalent to a 18th-century 1-shot musket versus a 20th-century assault rifle! Over the many years I've played Fallout 4, I've naturally made extensive use of the weapon workbench, creating and testing various modifications. Even a 5-shot musket is inferior to a simple, unmodified laser rifle. And when Preston walks through Sanctuary with his musket, he's just demonstrating that he's a living anachronism... if you're being charitable! Such an anachronism can also be found in "Fallout London"... there, the player encounters groups in 18th-century British naval uniforms—they carry classic muzzle-loading muskets and pistols! By the way: In addition to pure damage output, a weapon's rate of fire and accuracy are also important. And, of course, the availability of ammunition—either through collecting/finding/looting, purchasing, or crafting! 1

As I mentioned, if I knew whether that damage was per crank or for the full number of cranks the thing can do, I'd answer that. But I don't. I no doubt used the dead Minuteman's laser musket the first couple of times I played. Then I realized how lame and memey they are. The loading screen that features them says something like "Modern technology with Revolutionary style." To adapt Lucas's saying about armor ("Pretty don't stop bullets") to weapons, style don't kill enemies. If there were a mod that turned all energy weapons into laser muskets (and maybe there is), I'd be fine with that. 1

That with the energy cell per crank is a good hint. I didn't think about it. So I just have to find a musket that is not equipped with multiple charging. Then draw the comparison and voila, then I have the answer to my question. I think there is another one on the table in the back room in the market at Corvega. Many thanks on the way. Build a weapons workbench in a settlement—for example, in Sanctuary... set the weapon modification perk to level 1 (actually, you can even do without it). You can remove the modification in question from the "multi-shot" musket and replace it with a "one-shot" part. Otherwise, the "musket" might still be in front of the museum in Concord... otherwise, there's also the console command "player.additem"—the ID number is "0001DACF" 1
