Skill books not working?

Ok so i have pretty fresh game and i've noticed that the skill books (unread) rarely gives me skill points. Any idea what would be causing this?

either your skill is on 100 already, or its a bug. i highly recommend installing the "unofficial patches" for skyrim and all your dlcs. you can find them for example on nexus.

you install them like mods. here is the one for normal skyrim: http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/19/?

 

they require the latest update though, which you should have anyway if you have a fresh skyrim.

Like i said new game so skills are not 100 and the books are unread. I have unofficial patch but i think not the recent update. I quess i could update it.
