Devious Device animation problem (maybe cause by DAR ?)

Hi, I'm a noob when it comes to modding and how mods work, so sorry if my question seems dumb.

I'm playing with the Nolvus modlist, so there are a lot of animations, idle animations and whatnot, and when my character equips the armbinder, it looks like this.

I read on another post that this could maybe caused by idle animations, and that I could maybe change the priority of certain animations. But when I look at the animation folders, especially the DD one, there are a lot of animations and it is a bit overwhelming.

I would like the animation when in armbinder to work properly, do you guys know what is the thing that I need to change to make this work? Also, for a higher priority, do I need to change to a higher or a lower number?

Also, in the Devious Device NG mod folder, there's a subfolder named "OpenAnimationReplacer" and then "DD to OAR" but the Nolvus modlist is using DAR. Does it make a difference?

In DAR animations, the folder with the highest number has priority. Try setting the number on the folder with the idle animation lower than the DD folders have. For example, the folders with DD animations have the number 222, you need all other animations to be lower than this number, then the DD animations will have priority. It works something like this.

Yes it does.

To simplify it:

DAR-specific animations can be run by OAR due to backwards compatibility, but OAR-specific animations won't run with DAR. Get rid of DAR and install OAR instead. For all practical reasons it's a drop in replacement. OAR is DAR, but newer.

Don't fiddle with DAR folders unless you know exactly what you're doing. In any case it's counter-productive anyway. Just get OAR (and its requirements).

Hi, thank you both for your insights. I followed both of your recomendations and it worked. I'm not sure if it's a combination of the two, I don't have time to do some testing right now but in any case, thank you very much!

combination of the two,

If you have OAR, get rid of DAR. There is no point in keeping it, and it may or may not lead to issues down the line.

Both do exactly the same thing, but OAR is newer, better, shinier, smarter, handsomer, more popular with the girls, boys and Apache helicopters, runs a charity foundation that rescues puppies, helps old ladies with groceries, gives sweets to children and fights crime undercover at night. It could probably make a good cup of coffee on top of that if it had hands and you asked really nicely.

From now on, if any mod says DAR, assume OAR and forget DAR had ever existed.

Haha got it, thanks.

Honestly, it's only because of the DAR that I don't switch to the new version of the game. But yeah, all the new mods use OAR now, I have to convert them to DAR because OAR is not that simple. You have to use one or the other, not both.

What for? Just install OAR.

I have a set of my own animations that I have been collecting for a very long time. I have no desire to convert them to OAR and json. And why break something that works well anyway. In Skyrim, new often does not mean that it is the best. And there is no time either, I am currently converting armor and forming xml.

Read what i said in my first reply. Anything that works with DAR format will work with OAR. You're doing a lot of work that is completely pointless.

I too had a bunch of custom conditions set up for animation files and was stubbornly refusing to upgrade. I even made a thread asking if there are any issues with switching. The answer was "no". I  finally did, no more than 4 months ago, fully expecting problems. And you know what?

It just worked (tm).

I changed nothing and it still works. But now I have access to OAR-exclusive content.
