phendricks0418 Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 I want to make a character that is a half dragon/lizard, half human. I know there are some great custom races out there like the "half dragon race" and some great textures like the "born dragon" skin however, I can't figure out a way to make them work with SOS. Any help would be much appreciated! Â
PandaIGuess Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 The texture you mentioned isn't compatible with SOS. You'd have to patch it yourself, or track down a patch someone else made. It doesn't seem like it'd be too difficult to patch since there's already a nude skin included in the main files. You'd mostly just need to add in a texture for the schlong and clean up any weird seams.

Do you happen to know of any good resources to get me started on making a custom patch?

Do you happen to know of any good resources to get me started on making a custom patch? There's a few tutorials on making textures for Skyrim floating around on the internet, but I don't think I've ever seen one for specifically patching textures to work with other body mods... Since it's a bit different than what the general texturing tutorials will show you, I can just quickly explain the process: You need Blender (and the PyNifly plugin), either Nvidia Texture Tools (for Nvidia graphics cards) or Compressonator (for AMD cards), and optionally a texturing software like Quixel Mixer (If you don't grab it, you're going to be stuck using Blender's texture workspace...) Install the PyNifly Blender plugin, and import your main body mesh and your schlong mesh. You can find both of these in your SOS mod folder. (I'm just going over patching the male diffuse texture for simplicity's sake, the process for the other textures is roughly the same.) You can find malebody_1 under meshes > actors > character > character assets, and malegenitals_1 under meshes > actors > character > character assets > SOS > Smurf Average. Locate your diffuse textures. Your schlong diffuse (if you aren't using any skin mods for SOS) is named malegenitals_1 and is located in your SOS mod under textures > character > SOS > Smurf Average Your body diffuse texture is located inside your Born Dragon mod folder, and is named malebody_1. It is located in textures > actors > character > male Assign the textures you just found to your mesh's materials inside Blender. If you're planning on using Quixel Mixer or a different texture painting software, you might also want to set up UDIMS. Use Blender's texturing workspace to clean up the seams on your textures. The new version of Blender has several brushes that can help you accomplish this. You can also instead choose to export your model and import it into a texturing software like Quixel Mixer and use that to clean up your seams instead. Export your textures, and import them into either Nvidia Texture Tools or Compressonator. You want to convert your new textures into the DDS format so they work with Skyrim. Make sure you select the BC3 compression format if you're making textures for LE, and BC7 if your textures are for SE. Either overwrite or the original textures with your new ones, or just completely replace them. They must be named the exact same and in the same folder structure to overwrite the original textures.
