I am trying to make Skyrim look better but I am not sure how to go about it. I am currently looking into these mods.

Now to do this and to get it working right I also need http://enbdev.com/mod_tesskyrim_v0168.htm

Hopefully I can get this right the first time so I do not need to re-install or get CTD's.  Anyway, thank you guys!

this was the closest topic I could find to getting advice and help with modding, I am trying to edit the meshes in Skyrim with Nifsokpe, I have worked out how to change what's already there but I can work out how to get an imported .obj or .3ds file to work once the mesh has been put in skyrim and loaded, on nifskope the the imported object is there on the mesh model but won't load onto the mesh in game, can someone help with this? I'm not sure if I missed something or what but I've spent too long trying to work it out myself please help if you can

now thats a job for Ragna-Rok, brutalizer of orc-stuff since... em... *doesnt remember*

first, not to demotivate any modder, but to make sure you dont live on another planet, my first lousy battleaxe took me like 3 weeks before i got it working. now i can make stuff on another level in like an hour.

second, armor is way more complicated to be modded than weapons (except bows). a weapon is a static thing that you can easily manipulate with nifskope (though i prefer other methods myself), armor HAS TO GET SKINNED AND BONE-WEIGHTED, even if you do so much as adding a single spike or skull somewhere.

every type of body has a different skeleton (i compare the regular skeleton with any body-mod of your choice, or boob-mod like i love to call them). that basically means that armor you create for boob-mod x will NOT work on regular skyrim bodies, neither on boob-mod y. even when i could make custom weapons pretty fast, for armor i had the same learning curve, i would need more info from you to pinpoint your problem, what i read between the lines is this:

you tried changing armor, but it will never work in game because skyrim doesnt know how to handle your changes, and thus the game simply says "F U" and shows it either without changes or goes CTD.

for example, you add a skull to a helmet. the way how the original helmet moves is defined by it being connected to a skeleton (its called skinning) to make it match your chars movements, and the definition of bone-weights, that tell the game how much what part reacts to movement of the bones. if you dont export all the gear, erase the preset skinning and weighting, make your changes, and redo the skinning and weighting, your stuff cant work.

it took me weeks to get my first armor equipped with working wrist-blades, you see, you cant simply connet blades to a gauntlet and it works, i had to reskin and weight it again completely new, and the first time it worked in game, the blades bended like the fingers because they were connected the wrong way, so the skinning stayed as it is, but i had to tweak the weights (lowered their values) so that the blades would stay straight no matter if the fingers bended or not.

if this is your first mod, dont expect to be done before a month or so, even if you spend all your free-time on that one. you picked the hardest thing possible to mod. but then again, the feeling of having your first thingy work in game, is simply overwhelming awesomeness :)

good luck, and give more info, maybe i got you wrong.

edit: the best advice in general for rookies: "patience, little grasshopper" :)
