He didn't specify whether it had to be up to date. Plus it still works I think

The former should be axiomatic and not require specifying. The latter is false, there have been many posts throughout the years here on LL lamenting AEP's deprecation, with parts of it failing and others reporting issues like severe lag when installed. And unless specified by the mod author, a good rule of thumb is to never install mods that haven't been updated, especially as long as 2 years.
