Turning NPCs into PCs?

Following the Reaper's Rewards I decided to add both Grim and Bonehilda to my game, but even after adding them both to family and having them marry the perspective sibling I was using to play through this event I can't seem to do some simple things such as assign them to a bed.  I'll say now I don't use MCCC, so any cheats used were all shift-click, however if the mod will solve this issue I'll happily install it.

 

A little backstory on how I got to where I am now.

 

For Bonehilda, I slipped into Modify in CAS and switched on her romantic and woohoo preferences for women, after which she and Aki (one of the Sims I was using) built up a full friendship and romance bar, but Aki couldn't propose to her (even had her ask to be friends and then rebuilt the romance right up again), even when Bonehilda was out of her maids outfit, so I switched household and had Bonhilda propose and it worked perfectly well.  They eloped immediately and Bonehilda moved into the family, but now I can't even assign her to her wifes bed.

 

As for Grim, during the event I had Takashi (the other Sim I had in the household in case Aki died somehow) flirting and making out with Grim, building up a full romance bar despite Grim having no woohoo interests in men or women (I tried to Modify in CAS but whenever I tried this on him this was never an option), they even got engaged after the popup from Grim to Aki where he said he'd found a ring in her brothers bag and asking what he should do (Aki being a good wingman told him to go for it, obviously), and once the event was completed Takashi summoned his man though it said Grim was in his employ so it was unacceptable to marry him.  I added Grim to the family and they eloped immediately, again I still couldn't Modify in CAS so he went to the nearest mirror and I gave him a full makeover.  He still floats around the place, can't be assigned a side of his husbands bed, and when pound Takashi's brains out he remained completely clothed and i couldn't undress him to any degree when clicking on him mid-act.

 

Apologies for the tale there, but just wanted to set the scene of what's going on with some of the issues that I can recall occuring whilst trying to give my Sims a nice happy ending to their little story.  Despite both NPC now added to family and married they still seem to be acting like NPCs, so any advice or suggestions on what to try (again if I can only solve it with MCCC then I'll install it) to sort it out would be appreciated.
