Vault 88 No Beacon Power Solved

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Posting this here as I saw dozens people having this issue over the years, but despite the hours of searching I never found a definitive answer to this particular problem. So I figured some people having this issue now or in the future can benefit from this information on how they can fix this problem.

With Workshop Framework, Sim Settlements, or Transfer Settlements mods where you can import settlement layouts or if you decided to use the scrapall console command to scrap everything in the area to start from scratch before doing the Vault 88 questline you can break the vault recruitment beacon, softlocking quest progression.

This issue happens because the hidden wire connecting the beacon to the vault reactor is scrapped. So the beacon does not receive any power and will not accept any power from any source other than the power connector that is hidden under the floor beneath the vault reactor. Only when the beacon is connected to the power connector underneath the reactor will the beacon work again.

Using a combination of the tcl console command and the "wire glitch" you can reconnect the vault recruitment beacon to the hidden connector, providing it with it's valid power and allowing you to flip it on and continue the quest.

Hopefully this will help a lot of us that want to quickly scrap everything and build a vault/settlement in the vault 88 area before starting it's questline proper and not have to reload a previous save.

TLDR: Connect the recruitment beacon to the power connector hidden underneath the floor below the reactor using the "wire glitch".

First of all, thank you for this contribution.

The problem has been known for a long time - but solutions to it can only be found in the special Fallout forums of the respective language groups.

I know this from the relevant forum for Germany (including Switzerland and Austria - they also speak "German") ... as well as possible solutions.

But another related problem was much more serious for us players:

It was only with a lot of effort and tricks (including mods) that you could connect the existing reactor to the area of the vault that was being built!

Right at the beginning, players like me still set up separate generators - a core reactor right at the beginning of the construction phase was simply not possible ... without using "cheats".

After working on the vault construction for a few years in various playthroughs - I eventually came to a question:

What the hell am I actually doing here?

I've been playing Fallout since the first part - and not a single "bunker" has ever had the task of attracting wasteland residents via radio transmitter and populating a "vault" with them.

You could just as well send "eye bots" with the happy advertising message into the camps of the bandits and super mutants... just to make sure that they don't get lost on the way to us!

From this point of view, the whole DLC is complete nonsense - it turns the lore of the Fallout universe on its head.

Sooner or later, every abandoned bunker is taken over by bandits, mercenaries or other "madness".

Even "Vault 81" is actually an absolute exception!

And since I played "Fusion City"... well - that's what underground facilities are supposed to look like!

That's interesting, I didn't know it was keyed for ONLY that power source.

The only problem I've ever had with it was it turning itself on and off at random, on PS4.

So i had this problem. I couldnt just get a wire to connect because i couldnt tcl and get the wire to connect to a conduit. i couldnt get it glitch thru the console the beacon is mounted to. This is probably the only time ill ever go in this room so with the place anywhere mod (i think thats the one. It lets you move things around in small increments) i moved the beacon away from the console and i was able to connect it directly to the generator. I mean theres a space between the beacon and the console now but like i said. I never go in there so i dont really care.  SOLVED!!!
