sometimes polyamorous won't add

For some sims, but not all, when I try and "Give <sim's name> Wicked Attributes" and choose "Polyamorous", the game tells me in a message box that the addition happened but the sim does not get the attribute.  In the menu list of all Wicked Attributes available to add, the "Polyamorous" attribute is still available (as opposed to grayed out because the sim already has it).  This is persistent for the problem sims after multiple attempts, but does work for other sims on the first try.
