Doom Eternal Animation Framework

I have recently found and played HDoom for GZDoom and wondered if anything similar exists for more modern titles like Doom Eternal, so I checked and noticed there are barely any mods for the game at all, on a technical level, that arent just Models / Textures / FX / AI behavior. So I wondered if there are no modding tools provided by the developers, the only thing I could find was this guide here so far.

Id would love to try my hand at making a, if admittedly simple, animation framework to replace the kill animations with custom first person kill animations so that they can be combined with other gameplay aspects (i.e. when more than one enemy is staggered together within range you could perform a dual animation, etc.).

------

So my question would be to some who may have more experience modding Doom Eternal or in general, before I overcommit time on a lost cause, is this feasible at all with what we have available?
And what would that even require, if I wanted to make this into a framework for people to work with rather than just a mod that needs extensive re-writing for others to use?

------

When I say framework I think of something similar to what Skyrim / Fallout / Sims have that allows others to create for and run animations with, but realistically more limited, like utilizing glory kills for them.
Along the lines of Glory Kill Animation Framework or GKAF for short (Funny enough looks like an old Doom cheat code).

That’s not really a question that’s easily answered. DooM Eternal itself doesn’t use any 3D animation software. The engine itself is just playing and interpolating animations that were already made in other software.

If you’re wondering what tools id Software used to create the animations that went in to DooM Eternal, they probably used multiple tools. Some of the tools that they may have used include Maya, 3D Studio, Blender, etc. Based on some previous job postings that were looking for Maya riggers, though, it’s very likely that Maya is their primary animation pipeline tool.
