Guest corespore Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 So i finally got a .bsa reader, nifscope, gimp, the creation kit, and just about every available file exporting plugin i could find. After a few weeks going nuts trying to get it work it finally did. I created a custom texture for the dwemer crossbow in skyrim and even got it to show up in the preview option in the CK but when i try to make the weapon (the crossbow) in the skyrim game it's the same old texture. I used gimp to make the texture and nifscope to apply the texture to a model of the crossbow. I tried replacing the texture files in nifscope with the custom texture, there were three the standard .dds, the _n.dds, and the _m.dds. I tried replacing only the .dds and then tried replacing all three with the same custom texture only renamed to match the _n.dds and the _m.dds. However, i still cannot get the game to show my custom texture despite the fact the CK preview shows the new texture applied just fine. I know it's something obvious i'm missing here and if anyone knows what im missing here do please tell, i'm almost at my whits end here. Hopefully this is the right forum for asking this.
Guest corespore Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 Update, so i figured out that i only need to place the new texture in the .dds file seeing as it's the normal map. And i've found out that the textures do show up in-game if i drop said item on the ground. The textures do show up when the crossbow is on removed from the inventory it's just that it doesn't show up when in the inventory, on the players back, or when equipped.

Weapons use two models, and the MAIN model is almost always the first person model. This is the model you see and interact with at any time except when the model is in the world ( dropped on the ground ). if it is say a dwarven bow, try searching CK for 1stpersonDwarvenBow, etc, and change THAT model to your new model. The two can be the exact same nif, it's just CK has two entries to control weapons. Good luck.
Vioxsis Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 The 1stperson entry in the CK is the world model, that's why it is found under "WorldObjects > Static > Weapons". Don't let its name/Bethesda fool you!
Guest corespore Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU, you guys were right I didn't apply the the new texture to a 1st person model. I knew it was something i was missing in the CK. Everything worked like a charm it now shows up as it should. Thanks again you two.
