I've been trying for literally weeks now to figure this one out so anyone who would give me a hand and complete and correct my understanding of this would be GREATLY appreciated!

The way I understood it, is that the characters consists of

- a skeleton (I use the XP 32 Maximum Skeleton)

which seems to be for animation only and has no (?) effects on appearance

- a body like the UNP, UNPB, BBE, CBBE, BBP, TBBP (please soemone complete that list... =( )

Which sets the general appearance of the body, curves, influence of weight slider, proportions

- Textures

obvious...

I'm completely desperate to try to uderstand this, so please help me out.

Is there any way to get a hunch of what the differences of the UNP, UNPB, BBE, CBBE, BBP, TBBP and the thousand others are?

Or better. could someone complete that list so I can just look them up on Nexus? Pretty please?

How compatible are those things with each other? I currently use the Sevenbase, and there are a lot of mods (mostly armor) that says "ARMOR XY UNPB" Will it still work with my sevenbase (BBP?) things? With what consequences?

I know I'm asking quite a lot but I promise a big hug to anyone who takes some time to answer all that.

Alright, there are some terms which should be easy to recognise:

BBP - bouncing breast physics. This means that as you walk or jump or move the body, the breasts should move realistically.

TBBP - tender bouncing breast physics. Like the above but the bounce is a little bit more exaggerated.

UNP - basically dimon's own body.

UNPB - basically the above but the breast area is more heavily emphasised compared to the above. Plus the thighs are a little bit thicker

UNP Skinny - basically UNP but with smaller breasts.

CBBE - Caliente's Big Bottom Edition body. Has bigger fuller breasts than UNP and rounder buttocks.

Mmmmh It would require the somewhat esoteric knowledge of a PhD to fully answer this question.
But, as long my limited experience goes...

Sevenbase: big shoulder, big breast, big tight. Somewhat of an amazon type.

CBBE: is somewhat of a curvy woman. Big bottom, as the name says.

UNP: my favourite. Somewhat slender and sporty female.  Unp has the most of the armor also.

These are the main ones. There are others as there are many variations of UNP and CBBE (especially the former).
UNPB is basic UNP with bigger breast.

UNP skinny is small breast with very top model legs.

BBP and TBBP is another stuff... It's the jiggle effect that may be applied to the breast (the former) or the breast AND the butt (the second).
To see it ingame you need a skeleton supporting BBP (XP32 does), a BBP supporting body type and and armor supporting BBP (or TBBP).
So you can see it can became quite an acronym mess after a while (a UNPB TBBP body).

Then you have to drop all over it the texture... In this case I simply recommend SG texture by Hellosanta.

Regarding armor and clothes you can simply give it a try. Sometimes a CBBE would fit a UNP. There will be some inconsistencies and distortions but they could be not so noticeable, so  you may want to evaluate yourself. Anyway the nothing game breaking. Just visuals.

Thanks guys, this helped me enormously already.

Let me try to sum it up:

1- Skeleton to support basicly everything is XP32 (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/26800/?)

needed for several amors / BBP of all kinds and several new animations.

2- BODY, on Top of the Skeleton there is the "body". Like:

CBBE: Caliente's Big Bottom Edition body

UNP http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/6709/?

UNPB http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/37900/?

ADEC

Sevenbase

CBBE and UNP(B) seem to be the most popular and most compatible with most Armors)

Note: Some Bodies like the UNPB have a great installer that includes everything from Body Physics (see below) to textures. Mostly optional for you to choose.

3- Textures, On the Body go textures for the body. There are plenty out there, its important to pick one that goes with your Body.

4- Body Physics

There are several different mods that modify the behavior of the breasts (and butt). The most famous being

BBP (Breast Bounce Physics) and TBBP (Tender Breast Bounce Physics) which is a little bit more bouncy.

Example link: http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/35035/?

5- Armors, Last but not least

Self explanatory. Note: make sure to use Armors that support the body AND Body Physics. Example: "ARMOR XY UNPB BBP"

I will complete the list later, since Nexus went into maintenance right now...

As far as armors go, UNP(x) armors will generally work with other UNP based bodies (UNP, UNPx, 7base, etc).  The proportions will be wrong though.  If you don a standard UNP armor on a 7base body, your body will appear shrunk to standard UNP proportions, so putting on armors not made for the body you want to use is pointless, which cuts down on the number of armors you can REALLY use, and that's why they do convert some to other UNP based body types.

CBBE is mostly incompatible with UNP.  Besides proportion changes, there might be missing textures around hips or distortion/clipping around the more ample areas.  The good thing about CBBE is Bodyslide and Bodyslide compatible armors, with Bodyslide 2 just around the corner.  Unlimited possibilities without getting stuck to whatever proportions others decided for you.

Another thing to note is that some bodies that have the same base such as UNP, UNPB, 7Base, etc tend to have slightly different characteristics so the body may seem off or look weird if you put on an armour designed for a different base body. Just make sure you have the right conversions and you'll do fine.

A word of warning is that if you have any BBP armour/bodies and don't have the expected skeleton, you'll have an instant CTD.

think of it as puppets, the skeleton is where the the strings and inner structure determine movement and position of things.

it manipulates things like weapon hold positions, moveable body part areas etc, its basically the foundation for the body.

the body, or better, the meshes, are the shape that the body will have, they determine things like volume surface area shape

and then like you said theres the textures, that are kinda like the wrapping paper around the meshes/body that determine how they look, the color the surface appearance.

there are many bodies to choose from (and skeletons but you should stick to x32's like you have now), and they are basically different shape that fit different tastes the most popular ones are CBBE and UNP and both have slim/skinny and round/fuller variations (CBBE slim and curvy and UNP normal and blessed)

CBBE also features user friendly tools to tweak both the body shape and textures (you can design and customize your body, and this is the main reason this is my favorite)

ps: there are also mods that allow you to use different bodies and body textures for different races/characters, but those are usually tricky to setup and may conflict with some mods

there are also textures that look different than a body author base one, some hinging on hentai like perfect skins (like thepal's or sporty sexy skin), others going for more realism life like appearance (like true daughters of skyrim and mature skin)

terms like TBBP or BBP and the like refer to body physic features like butt and breast bounces, they vary from author to author, and they do make your moving/armor and sex animations that much better, so I recommend you take the time to read how to set them up, you usually need a skeleton (X32 does, but you should always install cherry hotalings body and then override with the body of your choosing)and body/mesh that supports it, fro CBBE bodies you WILL need to make a customized body with the slider tool.

the bodies themselves are pretty different and almost all are great as for compatibilities, well there are only 2 compatibility issues

1) textures, some body textures are only compatible with a specific body, if you use a texture that is not, you will get weird things like transparent parts of the skin, or features like nipples and pubic hairs distorted or in the wrong place.

them ost common ones will have multiple download files for different bodies, pay attention to that.

2) armor and clothes.

while you can use any armor or clothe of any compatibility with any body, you should know that the mesh shape of an armor changes to the body it was designed for, meaning if you are using CBBE body and equip UNP armor or clothes you will temporarily be in a UNP mesh with a CBBE texture/body parts, things like tives coming out of the armor or skin texture being distorted can happen.

both cbbe and unp have armor conversions and compilations for their respective bodies and you should resort to those, if you have a thing for skimpy, I heartily recommend "I love cleavage" compilation (skirt version for less skimpy but still sexy) especially the amazingly sexy nord armor optional (Aela's armor),

one other thing if you plan to use stocking/heels and want it to look good you need to install the HDT mod (system that makes heels instead of cutting the model's calve to get heel height) and a mod appropriate for that body otherwise stockings will go in and out of the leg mesh.

for CBBE body I recommend newmiller's autumn heels, they are gorgeous.

my view on this

skeleton-

these do effect the way a body can look most of the time this is slight and hard to notice

there main function for me besides bbp/tbbp is weapon placement

body-

skyrim bodies are the source of all evil in skyrim.

you have to understand that its all gonna be based on perception and what shape you like

then you inject outfits into this and things get realy bad.

------cbbeV1/2 and CBBEv3 + bodyslide ------

unlike unp which has had a consisent shape sense its creation(ill get to unp next) cbbe had a shape change into v3 that made alot of cbbe armors have a shape that no longer matched when equiped, also some armors just seam to have a shape strait out of a authors bodyslide preference like slimmer legs. but its something that can be avoided with ease if you look at armors before smashing then into your game or restrict your armors to only mods that have bodyslide.

now bodyslide is where cbbe is currently outshinning all others as it allows for a great choice in overall shape and on the fly switching if you get bored or want something new in shape.(im tired of typing about cbbe)

---------UNP and its massive and quite annoying list of other modders changing its shape for personal preferance + a smaller bodyslide compared to cbbe----------

so Dimons UNP came a little after CBBE but its main advantage is it attracted alot for attention from creaters u quickly had all vanilla armors converted to unp in non skimpy, and this is where the great evil was born cause at this time cbbe had zero conversions that were non skimpy. so cbbe somehow got branded a porn/anime body.

so time passes and along comes a modder who smashs unp with bigger breasts creating UNPB all the fun of unp with breast the size of cbbe and in a turn of events UNPB suffers in the same way cbbe v1 to 2 to 3 did, experinceing shape changes at elbows thighs and even breasts weight paint and shape changes

resulting in a cluster fuck for unpb armors as there is now unpb 2.2 ,2.4,  xp32s 2.5, xp32 2.5g and mrtroubmakers unpb bodies.

at the same time UNPC was created a shape that had curves to match cbbe but unps textures.

some other unp body tweaks include dream girl, unp topmodel and unp skinny

now the final mention based on unp but in a league of its own is 7b (sevenbase) this late addition came just a while ago and just before unpb to started impolding on its self.

it has seen a nice armor conversion injection helping in greatly from the other unp variants rivaling unpbs conversion rate

and it even caused lore freindly rqers to rage when a pic of tes arena was displayed with it and the bodies were near identical.

that being said it also almost hurt itself by being released with 4 or 5 diffrent shape options but in a lucky star kind of way almost all conversions have been for bombshell variant or cleavage (bombshell pushup)

and if you speend some time playing in unp bodyslide u can get allmost all of the vanilla armors to match its shape for the most part

----------------- lady body ---------

if there was ever a skyrim body that was loved and hated for a good list of reason i would say it was LB even cbbe and UNP bodies coundnt anger more then LB and at the same time omg i want that outfit is often said followed by no why is it for LB, a mod completly based on daz/Poser content that makes sweeping changes to the game like disabling the best races , making you question wether your getting a body mod or a game overhaul

this mod in the truest sense of the word is like inception.

it has hands down some of the most beautiful outfits with nearly every vanilla outfit being replaced with a poser outfit and a rather nice list of extra poser armors to use as well. if you can get over almost never being able to use other mods with it.

it also has in its own way a form of DRM as the uvmap had to be completly remade for the poser body resulting in LB outfits never working with any thing but LB, quite  a few modders have converted lb armors for personal use as krista almost never gives permissions for public posting of conversions. which has generated hate from almost everyone not in LBs cult people like to point out how all the armors are just Daz/Poser content and just converted and made to work in skyrim.

which is were most people fail to understand the amount of effort it takes to get from daz/poser to skyrim to LB.

everyone is free (well not free poser content cost money) to get the original poser content and convert it to skyrim then to your body shape, LB author just doesnt like the fact that your trying to take the work in LB to speed up your process of getting a armor for body X

SKELETON :

Skeleton controls more then you think. Bone scales can be set to influence the body mesh attached to it. Most people don't do this however.

Vanilla Body \ Skeleton : Has base bones needed for default animations.

BBP Body \ Skeleton : has Breast bones attached to control Breast Movement.

TBBP Body \ Skeleton : has another set of breast bones attached to add a more realistic effect for breast movement by allowing 2 controllers of movement at once. Also has butt bones to control butt movement.

Note that Skeletons are backwards compatible but not forward compatible. That is to say, if your body \ armor does NOT use TBBP, you can have a tbbp skeleton, you just won't get the TBBP effect. However if your body \ armor DOES use TBBP, you can NOT use a skeleton that DOESN'T have TBBP. This results in CTDs as the game tries to attach the armors nodes to a skeleton that doesn't have them. This is the main reason XP32's Maximum Skeleton is the staple now and the best one to use. It has everything you MIGHT need, even if you never choose to use it.

BODY AND TEXTURES :

There are 2 body types based off a base that use different UV Mapping for textures. UNP and CBBE. Any body type that is based off one of these is compatible with it's textures. Take for example my custom Celestial Body. Since it is based of CBBE, any CBBE textures will work properly with it. Using a UNP texture on a CBBE base, or vise-versa, results in deformation of the texture as it wraps to the body.

ARMOR AND BODY COMPATIBILITY  :

Most every armor, especially now days, comes with the Body it was designed for attached to it. This is to avoid clipping issues if your using a naked body that doesn't match, as well as for the armors designer to create the armor in the way they imagine. Since almost all armors do this ( even Vanilla Skyrim armor does ), most ever armor is compatible across the board regardless of what type of "naked" body you are using. Examples are if your using CBBE naked body and download an armor for Manga Body, the armor will work just fine, however your body proportions when wearing the armor will change to that of Manga Body. The only types of incompatibilities you will get are based on textures, since armor bodies typically call on the base textures installed in the textures folder. So for example, while you can be using a CBBE base body and textures, put on a UNP armor, the armor will work just fine, but since the two have body meshes that have different UV mapping for textures, you will notice some deformation of the textures applied to the body, not the armor.
