Annoying Smirk/Smile Facial Animation

Recommended Posts

I'm running CWSS 4.01 (newest one) with facial animations set to Player Face, could this still be causing this constant smirk/smile back to neutral face rotation? I previously tried setting it to Neutral Face, but it doesn't help. It is seriously annoying, the upper lip flattens out and looks like an idiot grin, and it won't stop. I'd prefer just a static neutral face honestly. I have tried modifying the mouth to compensate, but none of the combinations I have tried look like I want or help the issue much. I have read some reports that CWSS could be the issue, but I don't know if it is a default thing (I don't remember it from the last time I did some playthroughs 5 years ago), or if any AAF mods might be chipping in.

If anyone has a clue where I might look or a solution I'd love to hear it. If it is CWSS I will try to dig it out of the ESP and burn it with hellfire.

Cheers

I'm using the same version of CWSS as you, and am not having this issue. I wasn't even aware of this feature until I saw your thread. I used the holotape for CWSS, and it was also set to player face. So, either it is another mod you have installed that is causing it, or a couple of mods trying to do the similar things and causing strange facial issues.

Thanks, it might be subtle to some people, but when I use SLM and try to edit the mouth it's a rotation of smirk/smile maybe it's flirty face, and neutral face, makes changing anything a chore. It rotates the mouth idle about every 5 seconds or so, rarely it will remain neutral for 15 seconds, but then the smirk is back. I will have to check my animation mods, could be a standing idle that added this, but that might be a rabbit hole too far as most are done by non-english speaking authors or there is very little documentation.

I think I found it, Alternative Female Idle Animations. This mod adds unused vanilla standing idle flavors, I like them, but now being burned with hellfire🔥😈.

Thanks for posting your findings, so maybe it'll help someone in the future.

That other person you quoted is a bot, and I'd say the link is probably unsafe. Hope your PC didn't get infected with anything, if you clicked it. I'd delete your post quoting them, as the bot's post should be deleted soon, after I report it.

Lots of people love that mod, so maybe I'm the only one that finds is irritating 😕.

I was replying in jest to the bot, no way I would click that link 😲.

I may have spoken too soon. Removed Alternate Female Idle Animations and it still happens with the vanilla standing idle animation, maybe slightly less frequency. I think it is just baked into the vanilla idles, and I am probably the only one that doesn't like it enough to complain, or something else I haven't found is causing it. My faces generally look dumb with that half smile/smirk/flirty face, oh well.

It could be worth trying a new save, and see if it's any better. Without knowing your load order, my initital guess would be anything head related as a possibility (like oni asian face parts, female head redux or hi poly faces redux.) though if it doesn't bother you that much, it might not be worth the effort.

As long as you know they are a bot and the link is suspect, it's all good. Not everybody is so astute - just today, one of the discords I'm in was being spammed by the offer of a steam gift card - which is a common scam. Even now someone fell for such an obvious discord scam. You never can tell with some people!

Thanks for the suggestions. It has done it on every save since I re-setup the game a month or so ago, so I'm not convinced that will help, the current save I am playing is quite new. Head is all vanilla, so nothing major to look for there. It bothers me, I just need to find a mouth setup that doesn't make it look stupid when it happens.

I've been around the IT/Security industry for quite a while, it is amazing what people will fall for these days, and how much information they offer up on their phones just to have some useless app.

I have the same issue with an older version of CWSS. It seems that the reset of the facial expression does not work. You can use this mod to reset the face to neutral or give it other expressions. Works for the player and npcs: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/22051?tab=files    (Show your emotion)

Thanks for the link, I did try searching for something similar, but didn't find that one. That might be what I need, an EASY button. Doesn't look like it's portable, but has a weapon for npcs, I wonder if I can hit myself with it 🤪.

It is definitely CWSS, even the newest version. There is a timer of 300 on the facial animation, changed it to 15 but it made no difference. Every time I use CWSS furniture it causes this smile/neutral transition. The mod Show Your Emotion can fix it, but only somewhere you can build the button, porta-potty in the wild causes the facial animation to repeat. I will take a closer look at the mod and see if I can just create something portable. Thanks again for the link.

I remembered an old modpage about facial anims: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8275

So I tried it, opened the console, clicked on my character and typed: "caa animfacearchetypeneutral" (without the quotes). It worked, but in any case you should make a save before using the command. The switch between first and third person only worked after some tries again. If you are on game version 163 you can use the screen archer menu. It has a similar function for me, but I am not sure whether you need an additional mod for this. I have the facial expression under "Looks".

Thanks, I found the command used by the button looking through the esp, which I can use in the console for the same effect. That is all the mod does, cannot shoot yourself with the gun though, which I think would be much more immersive 😄.
