I can't get the Grimsever quest from Mjoll.

I don't know what the heck is going on. I've tried everything. I've done every quest I can in Riften, became Thane, haven't aligned with the Thieves Guild, and waited a week in the game, but Mjoll still won't give me the quest to get Grimsever for her. I have no mods affecting the quest or the vanilla dialogue options Mjoll provides. Also, I'm level 48, so I should be at a high enough level for it because you should unlock the quest at 15 or somewhere around there. I've tried leveling up in front of her, but that did nothing because that's only a fix for consoles and not PC (at least, that's what the guide said. I tried it anyway for the benefit of the doubt).

 

Is there a way to fix this, or is there no hope?

I remember that Mjoll's mission had a certain detail to take into account. I think that after meeting Mjoll you had to level up (no matter how much) for the mission to recover her greatsword to be activated. I mention it because it also happened to me in the past until I understood that simple solution. I hope it is useful to you, level up and talk to her again. If not, maybe you have a mod that modifies mjoll and her mission

I tried the level up thing as I mentioned, and it didn't work.

go get grimsever first and then talk to her, i always end up with it in my inventory before ever talking to her because aerin is a clingy loser so I never go near her

I tried that, but the sword wasn't there. I need to start the quest for it to spawn.

•  PC   Grimsever can disappear from the instance if another quest which changes Mzinchalefts interior is accepted. This can happen in the case of the Enhanced Dwemer Crossbow Plans for the Dawnguard line.
  •  PC (Fix)   Additem 00053379 combined with setstage FreeformRiften09 30 should fix this.
  •  PC   Grimsever may also spawn naturally as a two-handed version.
    
    To receive Mjoll's quest, the Dragonborn must be at least level 14, and Mjoll must have a friendly disposition towards them. The easiest way to gain her favor is to simply agree with her that the Thieves Guild in Riften is evil. Alternatively, Mjoll's favor can be gained by performing tasks for citizens of Riften.

So, someone on Nexus named scorp10 found a solution that solved the issue. They said it was likely because I went into Riften after being a higher level than 14, which caused Mjoll to bug out. They explained it, but that was about all I could understand. Either way, here was what they recommended.

What you COULD try:    on console, run command:  setstage DialogueRiftenSS01 200   - this will kill the scene quest.   Then try leveling and see if you get the quest.
