How can I change modded NPC weight without causing a neck gap on SE?

I'm a bit confused after trying to edit the weight of a mod follower without causing the neck gap issue, and was hoping someone wouldn't mind explaining the process to me.

I tried basically following the steps outlined here, but using nif optimizer to convert the nif files to LE before running through nifmerge then converting back to SE. However aside from still producing some texture oddities, the neck gap is still there. All the other guides I tried following seem similarly geared towards LE rather than SE, so I'm hoping someone here has experience with this. Thanks

Did you re-run the .NIF through the optimizer to make sure it was SE compatible again after the merge? Reading through the steps provided there, it's not really stated to do that.

I'd do it like this...

As the post said, but add a couple more steps. You'll want to merge the face tint too.

This guy has an incredibly detailed tutorial on this very subject. He even includes a mistake he made (resulting in your exact issue), and how he fixes it.

The weight of the follower must match the weight of the head has been build with.

Thanks so much for that, I'll give it a go and see if it works.

To put my question another way, basically what I'm asking is how I can edit the face mesh/tint to work with a different body weight than the one the mod author intended

can edit

create new in ck with proper weight.

Edit it, well if you can spend the time trial and error.

I really recommend watching the whole video, if you can find the time. I know that it's over 4 hours long, but I went from complete noob doofus, to reasonably knowledgeable after going through the thing. It's pretty daunting, but if you take it in, in smaller chunks, you'll really get a much better base of skill to figure things out on your own.

I watched the relevant parts and managed to fix my issue. I had to get a racemenu preset for the follower to remake the head .nif, I think that's what I wasn't doing before which was still causing the neck gap but it's all working now so thanks :)
Definitely gunna keep the vid bookmarked in case I ever run into follower based stuff I don't understand, although you're right 4 hrs is daunting and I feel like it can easily be 8hrs+ if you're following along with it and testing things as you go.

Ya that's what I was doing but unfortunately wasn't that simple, I had to recreate the head .nif using the correct weight in racemenu and use that file to merge with the CK created one

that simple

do it the other way.

Open the body 3ba via create new project.

There you have a slider headgap. Move this one to 100% and choose set (drop down left upper) as new base.

Save under a name and path, choose 0 nif and 1 nif.

Then you can build the body for this follower with a stronger gap correction.
