[Question] Why look for an unreformed religion to change for erotic tenants?

So, I started out as orthodox, and my idea would be to reinvent a christian faith with those juicy tenants. However, I read on this forum that it's better to take on an unreformed faith, and reform it with the tenants that you want. I'm curious why that is? what advantage does it give you?
