ThornDJL7 Posted April 22, 2024 Posted April 22, 2024 Doing some initial digging for a Pro-Insectoid Breeding colony, and while I'm getting some "almost" there, I'm not finding a solid hit. Anyone else run a colony that intentionally bred with insectoids "positively" that was fun, mod wise? What mods did you use? 3
Sicon3 Posted April 24, 2024 Posted April 24, 2024 (edited) I've run insectoid colonies but never a human pro insectoid colony. Whether or not it is fun is really down to what you do with the colony but I can at least recommend some mods. 1. Vanilla Ideology expanded - You'' for sure what the Insectoid supremacy gene, this fits your concept perfectly and gives you options to summon and tame insects 2. Oops all BUGPARTS - More for humanoid insectoids but by far the best mod for adding insect parts for pawns. 3. Vanilla Factions Expanded - Insectoids - adds plenty of variety and you can use a mod like Faction Control to ally yourself with the new bug faction. Being rebuilt for 1.5 so not ready soon 4. Alpha Genes - plenty of insectoid stuff added from the now depreciated Alpha Genes insectoid mutations mod 5. Biotech Expansion - Insectoid - adds more insectoid genes for fun and gives more taming options via said genes 6. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3149655074&searchtext=insect new little mod i noticed that could be nice for some theming 7. Biomes! Caverns - Build your bug worshipper colony underground 8. Not My Fault - so that visitors being mauled by your rogue insects doesn't hurt your reputation 9. Vanilla Plants Expanded - Mushrooms - More variety for your cave agriculture 10. Build your Hive Continued - allows you to build hives that summon hostile insects over time, build your walls with chittering masses  Overall consider where on the line between human and insect you want your actual colonists to be and then adjust from there  The single biggest issue you will end up facing is game slowdown from number of pets. for some reason that you'd have to ask someone who knows how the game works behind the scenes to explain pets are as bad if not worse for TPS than humanoid pawns. You'd think it would be the opposite since they have so few work types but nope just as bad if not worse. As a result maybe play on a 200 square map in the cave setting and try and make yourself neutral to insects (I'm sure there are mods for that) to keep most of your horde wild or focus on taming the biggest and best over time. An army of 30 splenopeds sounds fun but will tank your game.  Also welcome to the forum I see this is your first post. Edited April 24, 2024 by Sicon3 4
shitloadsoflizards Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 I've had a few cracks at this but the problem is the insects change after they get a taste for colonist pussy and start (semi? They're less aggressive but still trying to rip limbs off if nearby) ignoring genes that would otherwise cause them to ignore colonists. It seems whatever RJW does to control the behavior is not compliant with genes such as VRE insectoids pheromones...
geekyraptorstudios Posted May 23, 2025 Posted May 23, 2025 I really need a mod that adds a gene to give birth to a different xenotype than the pawn giving birth, like how ant colonies have workers but the workers are fundamentally different than the Queen that gave birth to them. I don't think a mod like that exists but it'd be nice.
