gsguns Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 This has been bothering me for some time. The fact that you are able to save and load the game at will. It feels like cheating. You get killed, then you reload your last save, knowing exactly how to not be killed the next time. So I decided to implement custom death penalties into my game that doesn't evolve the "If you dead, you are dead" rule. I would use it, if not for the fact that I would need to create an entire new character, an entire new backstory, an entire new set of habits and personality to the new one. It was already painful just to create one for my current character. I need you guys to give me some suggestion on how can I improve my death experience.
Mud Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Perhaps you could implement a rule about not saving in hostile territory? Like, only save at the start of a dungeon, and if you die you get sent back there. And only save in friendly settlements, if you die in the wilds you're back in town with all the stuff you earned gone. Or maybe copy what many old-timey RPGs did when you died. Leave half your gold in a container somewhere every time you die. Perhaps drop all of your currently carried, non-unique equipment somewhere except for the lowest tier gear you have, to pretend dying cost you all of your nice gear and you have to make do with Iron/Hide gear until you can fashion a new set of gear.
gsguns Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 I will take that. I will also implement saving in cleared locations only. Ex: I just left town to go adventure for a while. I happen to stumble across an bandit camp, If I manage to take them all out without dying once, I will allow my self to save, If I die, I will load the town save and leaving some money at some random container I stumble across.
Adam Jensen Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 How about you try this instead? http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/29312
Kurosu Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 A big-ass game like Skyrim doesn't really lend itself well to Iron Man playthroughs, especially since random chance can fuck you over completely. Going with the first of Mud's suggestions - i.e. not saving while in a dungeon or travelling - is probably the closest you can get, short of dropping your items every time you do die. But then you leave yourself a possible victim to the occasional Bethesda-game crash. On the other hand, there's also this How about you try this instead? http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/29312
