Can play skyrim ultra Full ENB 40-60 fps but oblivion only 20...

heard it has something to do with the cpu or something, like it only uses one core and suck for multi-cores.

 

8-core amd cpu 4.0 ghz

gtx 760 2g vram

vista - 32 bit

 

Anybody with an up to date rig that can run oblivion pretty good?

Vista; that's your problem. Oblivion works best on XP due to that being the last Windows OS with DirectSound support.

 

I've also found that certain versions of OBSE cause the framerate to plummet and OBGE can do the same.

 

Have you tried assigning Oblivion.exe to 2 cores in task manager? I'd suggest something like core 5 and core 7.

Oblivion only uses 1 core, so yah.  Your only choice is to regulate how many and what mods/enb you'll add and configure them right. 

 

Multi core ini settings won't offer anything and have a chance to do bad instead of good, so better avoid them. Just have to live with it.

Also, since you have an FX CPU, you could try disabling every other core so as to free-up the cache and FPUs. To do this, go into your bios and disable four of the cores. Leave four enabled. You can see a jump in performance between 20-30%.

 

When you want to do something heavily multithreaded, enable the cores again.

i have jumped from xp to win 7  (from 1 to 8 core cpu) never changed anything neither in video card  neider on the cpu core  as the systeme is taking it in charge     I may be wrong but often the probleme is coming from load order  with  mods heavily scripted    and  runnig it as administator    + all the last Obse plugins +OSR

and tweaking oblivion.ini

 

a load order does not need to ctd to be bad (background script can slow everything when they conflict) 

administrator autorisation may not admit backgroung script to run fluwently

the 4gb patch might help and must update all OBSE + Plugins like menuq and pluggy and OSR might help

OBGE and EMB are good but need to be configured correctly.
