Hopeless in Tamriel...

I reinstalled Skyrim SE/AE to an external SSD a while back. Tried to roll it back to SE and made sure I had the right SKSE but, nope. Screen freezes on a weird shot of the cart; no sounds, nothing. I want to replace this install with my fully backed up SE, and I tried but bupkis. I suspect I have files from AE hiding somewhere but can't seem to find them. Can someone please point me to a guide for this? No videos, please, they are hard for me to follow and even the best ones (according to recommenders) leave out or gloss over steps, or assume I know more than I do.

I don't know for sure, but my files are still in the user folder along the paths c:\Users\Agnessa\AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition and c:\Users\Agnessa\Documents\My Games\Skyrim Special Edition

Yeah, checked the analogous places in my laptop. Thanks though.
