The screenshots look great, but the demo you put out is completely atrocious and simply non functional on a technical level.

The issues start right away on character creation when you chose a new body type, the old model doesn't despawn, and therefore the game quickly begins to lag as all the models are stacked and animated on top of each other. An extremely rookie mistake, especially after such a long development time and money ask.

Scratch that, the first issue is actually when you start the launcher, the game tries to lure you into always online play, despite this being a flash-esk simple single player game. One red flag right there.

Upon actually starting the demo, everything breaks right away. Screen wanders off to nowhere on the right, the dialogue completely breaks, sometimes all clickable options just disappear, trapping you on a framed picture and forcing you to restart everything.

 

This is a disaster. The stuff you screenshoted is barely reachable in there, and everything reeks of either rookie or scam attempt. If you are neither though, you have a lot of work in front of you. It is not ready to be shown to anyone, -not even as a demo-, that is for sure.

To give some context to this project, there was a popular Flash game called Super Deepthroat with its own community of modders that grew it into a pretty robust sex engine, with addons for intercourse, inflation, and a Sims wardrobe of outfits and cosmetic tweaks. It also had a built-in dialogue system that could craft some pretty detailed scenarios, though it remained rough around the edges. SOULCOOM looks to be translating SDT into Unity and expanding it with VN/RPG elements, and while I admire the principle, I'm more than a little miffed this team's basically monetizing a free community's foundation without so much as acknowledging its provenance.

 

Frankly, it's not an encouraging start.

 

First off, the download is for a launcher/download manager, not the game itself. This is not stated upfront anywhere I could find on the itch.io or official website. Nor are the file sizes: a 33MB download for the Windows installer expands into a 110MB launcher, which then procures over a gig for the main game.

 

And so help you if something goes wrong. For such a glossy installer, its integrity is poor: if the download is interrupted, you need to start from scratch. If the installation is interrupted, it downloads everything again even with files on hand. Closing the launcher shuts down instantly without warning you what that does to an in-progress operation. My download froze because the drive ran out of space, and didn't resume after I'd cleared enough; there was no notification so I thought it was stuck until checking manually, and had to restart from scratch.

 

The stacking models described above appear to be fixed, but in the end I couldn't even play it: my comp's a few years old but it can handle newer games at average specs, and just the initial load-in inhaled my CPU and froze the computer so bad it couldn't even load the task manager. After ~20min waiting to start the scene, I gave up and killed the program out of fear it might crash my whole session. I may give it another try in a lab setting with minimal background processes, but this seems way too bloated for what the demo offers.
