Animation Alignment Problem

Hi I'm new to the whole skyrim modding thing. I seem to be having some trouble figuring out how to use the alignment hotkeys. I try using the assined key and it either does nothing or it goes the wrong way. Not sure if I'm just doing this all wrong or what. Could use some insight.

If you want it to go the opposite directing you have to hold down the shift key and the keys are set so you have to keep hitting them you can't just hold down the key.
