Vortex Lord Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 Directly in the game editor, without outside model editing. I'm interested because some static entities like horn candles and chandeliers do not have "off" versions like ruins ones do. Thanks in advance.
traison Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 I would check havoc animations in the object preview window. If there's an option for it, check how the gate in Fort Dawnguard was implemented (script) and apply it to this case. I had a look at ImpCandelabraCandle02 (which does not appear to have an off -variant) and it does not have any havoc options that I can see. The flicker effect is built into the nif and the flame texture seems to share files with candles themselves. Still going to say editing the nif could work but it's not going to be a matter of removing a node and saving.
Vortex Lord Posted April 13, 2023 Author Posted April 13, 2023 That's a bummer. I'll just use ruins ones then, it's not uncommon for Skyrim for households to have some ancient nord candlesticks. I want the house that is an entrance to my dungeon to look abandoned.
traison Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 (edited) One of the most important tricks in game design is pulling off an illusion. If you're adding light sconces and candelabras for the sake of adding detail to a scene, then perhaps consider adding something else instead. What I mean is, draw the attention of the player to the trash on the floor, the barrels, buckets, brooms and empty wine bottles, and they won't notice it's a room that never had any light sources. Send a message, instead of putting too much weight on the practicality/realism. Edit: Would Hjerim in Windhelm be a good source of inspiration? I don't recall seeing many (potential) lightsources in there, was too busy looking for clues behind boxes. Edited April 13, 2023 by traison
Vortex Lord Posted April 13, 2023 Author Posted April 13, 2023 (edited) Yeah I am aware of light sources as guides as to where the player is supposed to be going in game design. For this I use glowing mushrooms in the caverns. They are very convenient and I wouldn't be surprised if this was the whole reason they were added into the game in the first place. I can still use sunlight to light up the farmhouse interior and I have an idea for the basement. Falmer blue and drips. I'm also a fan of extremely dark dungeons. There's no point to torches and candlelight if the whole game is lit up like a christmas tree. Edited April 13, 2023 by Vortex Lord
