CBO - CFP - EPE override patch - 100% makeshift and hacky solution to play EPE with CBO

Hello friends.   Lots of us want to be able to play  Character Body Overhaul CBO Carnal Court  + Community Flavor Pack + Ethnicities & Portraits Expanded.

This is for 1.8

I'm by no means an accomplished modder but since there are no better alternatives, I wanted to share an override mode that helps propagate a few of the files of EPE.   Combining these mods is not easy, but anyway, something is better than nothing.   I'm think this will not break anything.

The general mod order is:

- Lots of stuff and events

- Carnalitas

- GUK Fix Carnalitas

- CFP

- EPE

- CFP + EPE compatch

- Stuff using EPE
- CBO
- CBO + CFP Compatch
- CBO + EPE Overrides (this mod)

- Carnal court
- CC + CFP Compatch

- More stuff

REMOVING BLACK FACES

As have been reported before, you need to remove EPE's FX folder inside the gfx folder.    Note that if your mod list has other mods with an FX folder, you need to remove that as well.   I noticed, for example, that the unofficial CK3 patch has an FX folder.   I don't fully know the negative impact of such a deletion, but so far I haven't seen any negative consequences.

As I mentioned before, all this is supper hacky, and could bring problems down the line, but maybe it will motivate more people to help getting it to work better.

When I go to add it to my mod list, I'm getting a red warning sign in the CK3 launcher. "Installation of this mod failed. The path in this mod's descriptor file is invalid or does not exist." I just unzipped it into my mod folder; I can clearly see that the descriptor file does indeed exist. Is this typical?

Found it open the cbo_epe_compatibility.mod file and change it to your file location. Something like that:

path="C:/Users/yourusername/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings III/

Sorry - "cbo_epe_compatibility.mod file"? There's the descriptor.mod file if that's what you mean. The only thing I see when I open that file is:

version="1.0"
tags={
    "Portraits"
}
name="CBO EPE Compatibility"
supported_version="1.8.*"

Am I missing something?

EDIT: I was looking in the actual file folder, not the larger CK3 mod folder. I got my initial problem fixed - thanks! Now just need to see if it works with everything else I've got in my mod list...

EDIT 2: I've followed the recommended load order posted here and I'm still getting a bunch of naked, skeleton-thin characters in my game. Based on my past experience, I'm guessing there's still a mod conflict with EPE. I'm also using Physical Attributes and Coetus Anima, so maybe one of those are throwing things off?

So i bascially did the same load order

- Carnalitas

- GUK Fix Carnalitas

- CFP

- EPE

- CFP + EPE compatch

- CBO
- CBO + CFP Compatch
- CBO + EPE Overrides (this mod)

- Carnal court
- CC + CFP Compatch

and got people -

- skeleton characters

- skiny people

- alot of ppl are naked.

- outfits are not working properly.  editing the outfit for your characters.

Hello all! yes I still have a bunch of naked skinny people left.   I'm not sure where to start to fix it.   I was going first with getting the game to play and I have mainly been overlooking the skinny problem.   If anyone has a solution or an idea to where to look, please let me know.

If you remove CC and this mod then it works flawlessly, except for bald characters in Africa/Burma.

By testing it around I realized that the bald character problem is from a compatibility issue between CBO and EPE.

And CBO explicitly states it is not compatible with EPE.

I'm not sure why people keep being surprised when it doesn't work.

What is the cc? Also for the weird body, if you remove the fk file in the epe. It should resolved some of the issues.

I want to believe it's just a bit more complicated and would require it be maintained alongside EPE by someone who actually knows what they are doing. Though I gotta admit these methods with a certain set of long specific load orders, deleting entire folders from across your mod list and crossing your fingers, hoping it won't break anything down the line for everyone, does really make me lose faith in a compatch happening.

Until then I'll have to be satisfied with just having CFP and CBO.

We are not surprised, we are trying to make it compatible.  Can definitely use the help, if you can provide any!

So I have been looking more into this, in case anyone has more ideas.      What seems to happening is that all the clothes of EPE are invisible.  I'm not sure what causes this, but the weird thin bodies happen because CK3 makes the bodies super thin so that they don't peek out of tight clothing.  What is strange is that there is a small percentage of EPE clothing that is not invisible.   You can see this by going into the barbershop and changing your ruler's clothes.    At the top of the list you will see CFP's and vanilla clothing, which work.   As you go down, you will start encountering EPE's which can be recognized by having icons.   You will pretty soon see the weird thin bodies, except for clothes like the iranian armor, which works fine.

I'm trying to identify why these EPE clothes are visible, vs. those than are not.   I think that, if we can identify that particular issue, we are golden.

@perrisloquis I know thebumpercar and Quiet-Sun (in the Carnalitas discord) have both said they were working on a CBO-EPE compatch (my guess is you're probably one of those two people, but I didn't want to out you ?). Maybe get try to get up with them and compare notes? I've only just started trying to learn CK3 modding so unfortunately I'm no help, but maybe one of them could be.

In regards to invisible clothing, I only see this for Mathilda in the 1066 character portrait in the main screen. I also notice mismatch of clothing for the cultures. Interestingly enough their head gears, pants and shoes seems to reflect their respective cultures.

Here are some examples:

Also the portrait editor still crashes. Probably due to the game cannot match the culture clothes properly. Lastly the culture hairs does not match as well.

Hello friends, I found an imperfect but serviceable solution by removing EPE's clothes and substituting them with CBO and CFPs alternative.   This may be a deal breaker for some of you, and I apologize, but fixing EPE's clothes is way beyond my skill.   At least it allows you to play the game without weird thin naked people.

@lazlo  I'm indeed Quiet-Sun!  Check my last post.  I think I got it to work reasonably well

I tried both your new and old versions and I'm still getting a bunch of naked, skinny people around the map. Especially in Asia. I have your load order and everything, not sure what the issue is.
