traison Posted January 28, 2023 Posted January 28, 2023 (edited) Paint.NET is what the kids use these days. Gimp works in some cases too. Photoshop probably. Just keep in mind that: Sometimes there's painted-on shadows in the diffuse texture. Normal maps, in case you're not aware, are not really images in the sense that you can just paint over them. They're vector data encoded as pixel colors. Usually you can flatten areas though; making bumps is another matter. Edit: Personally I use the dds tools provided by Microsoft.
