MiniMania1 Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 Hi everyone,  I am currently experiencing an issue in regards to my game freezing after a few minutes. I recently upgraded my PC and ever since I will be able to play for a little bit but the game will then freeze and the only thing I can do is open task manager and end the process. Sometimes it will say Skyrim is not responding and other times it wont. I can play from anywhere between 5 to 10 minutes before it freezes. I have noticed a significant increase in my fps after my upgrades (previously was getting between 50 and 60fps now getting 120+). I remember hearing at some point that having very high fps can cause issues with Skyrim. Any advice and aid will be appreciated.  Thanks  Â
MiniMania1 Posted January 11, 2023 Author Posted January 11, 2023 Before the game froze it wasnt creating a papyrus log however I just tried again and was able to get a papyrus log to be generated. Here are the 2 I was able to generate if they are any help Papyrus.0.log Papyrus.1.log
traison Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 There are no tools I know of short of attaching a debugger to debug freezes. You shouldn't run Skyrim above 60 fps as far as I know because the physics and scripts (and probably a thousand other things) are directly bound to the framerate. I don't know what people with 144hz monitors do, I assume they artificially limit their fps to 60. Anyhow, if that doesn't help then my first suspect would be overclocking and/or ram stability, especially since you just upgraded your system (with new parts I assume).

I was able to cap my fps to 60 which allowed me to play for a bit longer (about 30 mins instead of like 5) however I still ended up crashing. I tried playing fallout 4 (which I have stupidly modded) and had no issues at all. I'm starting to wonder if there is an issue with my mods because I moved my mods from one ssd to a new ssd. (I also did the same with fallout 4) So I am wondering if I have a mod thats not playing nice and causing it to freeze/crash. Luckily it created a new crash log however I have no idea what they mean. Papyrus.0.log
traison Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 (edited) Crashing is good. Considerably better than freezing. Get an actual crash log. Edited January 11, 2023 by traison

Thankfully I had that installed already so it was able to generate a crash log from earlier however it makes no sense to me do you know how to read the crash logs? crash-2023-01-11-12-58-06.log
traison Posted January 11, 2023 Posted January 11, 2023 BetterThirdPersonSelection has been known to cause issues, its in the callstack here as well so that's suspect #1.
