Can someone post a step by step guide on how to add *clothing* items to leveled lists in Fallout 4?

I have found several guides on how to add weapons and armor items to leveled lists in Fallout 4. However, my understanding is that clothing behaves a bit differently.

Let's assume that I'm trying to add some of Vtaw's clothing items to a leveled list. More specifically, there's an item called "leatherpants" in Vtaw's Wardrobe 1 that I'd like it to find from time to time on raiders.

1. It is my understanding that if I add only this item I will find raiders who are wearing only this (leather pants) and nothing else. Is my understanding correct?

2. The various solutions that I have found online for armor and weapons require installing a new mod that contains edited leveled lists (e.g., this, and this). Is this the only way of adding items to leveled lists? I was hoping for a cleaner solution where I simply add the leveled list that I want on VtawWardrobe1.esp. Is this possible or is there a lot more that I need to learn about learn about leveled lists?

3. Can I add specific items to specific genders?

and

4. Can someone, please, post a step-by-step guide on how to do the above? That is, what is the easiest way of adding clothing items on specific factions without messing up current leveled lists? In essence, I want my (heavily modded) game to work as is right now, with the addition of " Vtaw's leather pants" occasionally appearing on female raiders (the rest of their clothes, e.g., their torso/top, should remain the same). Can I do this by adding new entries on VtawWardrobe1.esp? If yes, how?

Many thanks!

The vanilla list are mostly intended for full body clothing. Adding the pants only into those list will spawn raiders wearing pants only so if you don't want that...

you need to create a new level list, and in it the vtaw pants with a shirt (& some boots/shoes) level 1 count 1 & check the flag use all.

So the npc will spawn with all three of those items when that list is used.

Then you can insert that level list into the vanilla ones with the other 4 vanilla raider armors.

Raider NPC: Raider Outfit

Raider Outfit: LL Vanilla Raiders

LL Vanilla Raiders (LL Raider Clothes)

LL Raider Clothes (Raider Armor 1, Raider Armor 2, Raider Armor 3, Raider Armor 4, Vtaw Raider Jeans)

LL Vtaw Raider Jeans (Vtaw Jeans, Vtaw Shirt, Vtaw Boots)

^ Rough example, you can look at the vanilla leveled list or a clothing mod that changes level list will probably help more visually.

Each faction should have a level list the pull from exclusively. You can find them in fo4edit by checking references from NPC to outfit into level list & sometimes it uses form list.

Basically, you want a level list to pull from a sub level list. I done that my HOTC clothing replacers.

But I'd try not to pull from lower than one. LL Shirts - (T-Shirt LL, Long Sleeves LL) So it's outfit --> shirt --> type of shirt.

Not Outfit --> Shirts --> Shirt ripped --> Shirts open --> Shirtless etc. etc.

I don't think you can divide it up between M/F. Vtaw's armor will show default armors for males anyway.

SPID can do that though, but I don't think you want to go that route it's slightly more complex.

Thank you for this, it is very helpful. That said, some steps are not very clear to me.

"you need to create a new level list, and in it the vtaw pants with a shirt (& some boots/shoes) level 1 count 1 & check the flag use all."

Where would I create this list initially? In the esp of the mod that contains the clothes that I want to add? In my case, the VTAW mod?

"Then you can insert that level list into the vanilla ones with the other 4 vanilla raider armors."

I'm not sure how to do that. Is there a step by step guide on how this can be done?

Again thank you for your effort to explain this.

You can add in VTAW or a new plugin and make is ESP-Lite (ESL flagged ESP)

The list that contains VTAW clothing would need to be newly created list.

The list you want put that VTAW list into would be for example LL_Armor_Raider_Underwear [LVLI:0008212C] You put the leveled list as an entry instead of an armor.

There are many leveled list, and some exclusive for certain factions. Dissecting an armor/clothing replacer mod for raiders on the nexus to reverse engineer the guts of how it works would help with how to set up basics.

Thank you again, I appreciate you taking the time for this. That said, several things are still not clear to me. Apologies for being so ignorant, I'm trying to learn!

I'm going to describe to you my steps with screenshots, maybe this will help:

Assume that I'm editing VtawWardrobe1.esp. My goal is simple, I want to add three of his items to a leveled list. Let's say that I want to my raiders to have a chance of wearing the leather pants, and one of the two tanktops.

According to what I've understood so far, my next step is to create a leveled list in VtawWardrobe1.esp. To do that, I click Add -> Leveled Item and then I right click Leveled Item, and I again I select Add -> Leveled Item.

I'm being asked to add a FormID. I assume that this is the FormID of the item that I want to add to this leveled list.

However, after clicking OK I get this error:

Am I doing things correctly or am I out of touch?

Form ID must be unique. It should assign a new unique ID when you create the list automatically. I don't recommend entering your own number.

Thanks again. I'm getting closer. So, right now I'm at the following stage:

Spoiler

I have created a leveled list in `VtawWardrobe1.esp` that includes the Leather Pants and the Tanktop. I have set both `level 1` and `count 1`.

The thing that I don't understand right now is how exactly do I add this outfit to LL_Armor_Raider_Underwear [LVLI:0008212C]. Do I have to reference this inside `VtawWardrobe1.esp`? If yes, where exactly?

Thank you for your effort.

Nevermind, I understand now what I did wrong. I have to declare the Leveled List using the ID of the list that I want to add my items in. I.e., in `VtawWardrobe1.esp` I select Add -> Leveled Item, and when it asks for the ID I have to input the specific leveled list. In my case, it was LVLI:0008212C (L_Armor_Raider_Underwear), just like the screenshot below:

And it works!

There's only one issue though. I noticed that the clothes are being worn by both male and female raiders. Is there a way to limit them only to female raiders?

Thanks!

No way to different male/female using leveled list without massively changing a lot leveled list/outfits for raiders. SPID can but it's more difficult to setup.

You don't need to overwrite the leveled list as you shown, you just need to add it as the 5th leveled list entry in pink and leave it as calculate for each item in count.

Then you can pull from 5 outfits 4 vanilla + vtaw. Right now all raiders will be Vtaw that use that list.

I don't understand this part. You say "add it as the 5th leveled list entry in pink". The pink entries are part of `Fallou4.esm`. You mean I should edit `Fallou4.esm`? If not, how am I to add it as the "5th leveled list entry in pink"?

Thanks again :)

No copy that entry from the Fallout4.esm over into VTAW plugin and add your (new) leveled list (with unique form ID) as a new entry inside that list. The vanilla leveled item list contains 4 armors, but you can also make it contain another leveled item list inside itself. Making it pull from the 4 vanilla armors + your vtaw leveled list. Giving you 5 armor combinations.

You are replacing instead adding to in those pictures.

That makes sense, thank you!

Now, if there was an easy to make some of the clothing gender-specific that'd be even greater!
