thatruth25 Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 I've been trying to fix my game without destroying my mods/saves/households, and while I do make progress in some regards (got copperdale working, fixed the acid-washed dialogue boxes, getting fewer exceptions), I still haven't completely fixed everything (buttons/icons still aren't perfect, framerate dips, freezing/stalling during certain elements like school, etc.). What do y'all do when you have game issues? My main goal rn is get my game running smoothly enough to start making videos/blogs again. Aside from just saving certain households and starting over, I'm like out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
vinceguldo Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 I don't have an answer but I have a question: How did you fix the acid-washed textboxes?
Guest Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 In case it got that bad. Save sims to library. Sims 4 tray Importer. Backup my sims with cc. Commit a full purge including full Documents/EA/TS4 folder Reimport with tray importer. Though the only time it went full ballistic was when switching gpu. And sane backups. Before adding new cc/mods keep a copy of full Documents/EA/TS4 folder from last known working in diffrent location.

What worked for me was updating the UI Cheats Extension. I also had an issue where Copperdale wouldn't load at all, and updating T.O.O.L took care of that. If there is an out of date mod with scripts that messes with the interface, it could be causing the acid-wash. 1 hour ago, KittcatJ said: In case it got that bad. Save sims to library. If I have a lot of clothing/cc I want to keep, could I save those too? Or should they be part of the major purge? 1
lucifeh Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 (edited) Organize the mod folder by what each mod does, clothing, accessories, makeup, skin overlays, animations, new mods, game changing mods, etc.. Leave the root mod folder for the mods that have scripts because you can't put those too deep, then it become easy to tell what is fucking your game. Pretty sure that what is fucking your game are mods with scripts. Put half of those on a folder on the desktop for example, clean the cache and run, if it works then the fault is something on the folder on the desktop, if not take half again and put on another folder on the desktop, clean the cache and run, and so on. It is the fastest way to discover imo if you don't know how to mod Edited December 22, 2022 by lucifeh 2

I keep all my scripts in a separate folder, and just by updating MCCC today I'm noticing a significant difference in my game's flow and framerate. I just need to check all my scripts and remove some of the older ones. Is there a cache file in the TS4 folder that I could delete? or is clearing the cache a process?

It is not a good idea to put script files inside a folder because many of those already come with a folder and the game engine doens't read scripts below 2 folders, so it will give you problems just by doing that even if the mod actually works. Damn, okay I didn't even realize that could be an issue. I might just need to do some reorganizing to fix things. Thanks!
thatruth25 Posted December 24, 2022 Author Posted December 24, 2022 Did a full reset last night, redownloaded mods to keep core features, purged my TS4 folder, and reuploaded everything. During the process, I found the mod that was causing slowdown and interface issues: It was an outdated version of "More Traits in CAS" that was basically destroying everything. Its a .package mod with no attached script, so I basically overlooked it. Framerates are up, animations/gameplay are smooth, no freezing, and I was able to keep almost all of my CC. Everything is working beautifully! Thank you all! ??????
