Can't meet Caesar

So I never went to see Caesar before I got vilified by the Legion on my current save. Is there a way to get back to neutral with them or do I need to abandon the save? It wouldn't be a problem if I had finished the main story. I hope to finish it one day and I'm not sure how to go about it.
