So, a few months ago, I began tinkering around with the Creation Kit for the first time: in part because I like to create things, and in part because I couldn't find too many followers that I really liked. A few days of silly mistakes and much CK-crashing later, I had two created and working in the game. A lil' later, I had one packaged up and ready for testing! Theeeeeennn as I am prone to do, I completely lost interest in Skyrim for a while. It's the kind of game I'll pick up almost exclusively for a month or two; then leave alone for a while. About a week ago, I picked it right back up again - and lo and behold; still had that one package still tucked safely away from the frenzied clutter-cleaning I get into once in a while. Thus, I'd like to present her here for testing - and have a topic open for any other NPCs I create along the way. I do have one other, but I never set her up as a standalone - and would have to go find my guides again before I can put something together. Selan (Arcadia's Cauldron: Whiterun) At the moment, she's the most basic of Followers. She stabs, flings ice bolts, angers your other followers from time to time, and blocks narrow hallways with her sorceress-y hips. My plan a few months ago was to start tinkering with items and quests and couriers and the like so that I could put some actual setup and development for her as a character into the game with her - and should I get the CK to play nice again, I think I'll look at that. I had wanted to do a lot of custom dialogue; but it would feel a little odd to have it totally unvoiced. Let me know what you think - and please let me know if it doesn't work or breaks things in weird and wonderful ways! This being my first attempt at modding, it's likely I've mucked a few things up in the process - and I'd like to get it working good n' proper before I go completely crazy with the NPC-making. Koko.Hekmatyar Posted August 12, 2013 Share Posted August 12, 2013 OK I opened her up in CK and it's showing her with 3 parent files that are marked as unknown one of which is BAMM seeing as when I try to load it it says it can't find that Master File. Link to comment

Yup! I 'removed' the masters using Wrye Bash a couple of days ago; but she was causing my vanilla install to crash whenever she was present in a scene. Unfortunately, the process of actually making said install completely borked my 'regular' installation of Skyrim - so I've had to completely wipe the game and re-mod it from scratch. I'll need to find someone with a clean installation to test these things in my stead, I think, and then work the followers all over from the very beginning this time. I'll probably start with Zevvi; as I had her RaceMenu data backed up in a text file already. Link to comment

My ultimate intent is to have these followers come with their own shapes and armors without requiring any of the mods they came from - but the Standalone Follower guide is a little vague on certain points. Since I've had to start over from scratch anyway, I'm taking more time in re-creating them so I can hopefully ensure there won't be any CTD-causing dependencies. Link to comment

s.eden Posted September 3, 2013 Share Posted September 3, 2013 Interesting, in case as to voice, look for the "Voice Actor Guild".But, before starting a thread there, prepare :Dialogues scripts Description (basic) of the character saying it, with elements as to context of the saying.Eventual others information related to quest and others involvements of the character.It is where most of the voiced mod find VA.(Then, when a mod become popular (look at Interesting NPC for instance) they are people offering service after playing the plugin, but that is not the most common occurrence by far. I had somewhat abandoned this after realizing that I'd need a vanilla copy of Skyrim to actually sit down and figure out what went wrong with the initial release. The plan was to find a new tutorial on creating standalone followers and learn the process completely instead of going by the old, broken-up guide I was using before. And then I stopped playing Skyrim; and then I wound up doing a reformat and leaving all my Skyrim mods behind. With the fresh install, I decided to do a little tinkering... and as it turned out, I may have done something incredibly silly and missed a teeny tiny step that may fix everything. Long story short: I no longer have the data for the planned followers, but I think I can create better ones by now. But I'll need a few people to test the fixes I made to confirm that they solve the actual issue. If you're interested in volunteering, just shoot me a PM! Once I've confirmed it's all good and working, I'll update the official release here. Link to comment
