Unmerging package files WITHOUT s4s?

I've been trying to unmerge a bunch of package files but s4s keeps saying it can't. From what I've been able to find it's because it's from an older version  of s4s or an alternative program. None of the package files I've tried had manifests which (if I understood what I've read online right) means s4s can't do it.

Does anyone know of any alternative apps that can un-merge these package files? IS there even a way to do so? I just want to extract and tweak some skins.

If the manifest was removed from the merged package, there is no way to un-merge it to the original individual packages with S4S (or any other software).

You can do that without un-merging the package. Just open the merged package in S4S, select the assets you want to tweak in the left side's list, then click Batch Export.

Edit the exported files to your liking, then use Batch Import to re-import the modified assets back (the new files will auto overwrite the old ones). Save the package.

Before Sims 4 Studio people used to use this other app - it's name escapes me right now..

The program was very complicated, used hex data and stuff,

 

If you download Sims that people have posted off tumblr and stuff, it's likely you've ended up with one of these older merged files (00s.package is a common one,)

The app used to merge them as no ability to unmerge them - 

 

In my experience - Unless you have the original CC, you cannot unmerge these files. I spent easily a couple of weeks trying to unmerge some really old CC and it just isn't possible if you don't have the original files.

The above sort of worked. Finding the right asset to "tweak" is the hardest. Ended up not bothering. If I couldn't just export it from the studio window I just said "meh"
