jrm0409 Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 I know this may be a big ask, but would any experienced users here know why this mod that gives Argonians physics hair is no longer working with AE? https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/39112 I would be extremely grateful if someone knew a fix. Im sure others would love to be able to use these hairs too. The issue is they don't appear in the racemenu sliders. Thank you for any consideration/help! I'd soooo love these for my Argonian playthrough!
traison Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 Let me guess, this started after the latest patch a day or 2 ago?

No actually, I downgraded Skyrim SE to 1.6.353 which is why I'm not sure what the problem is. I have all the prerequisites and a small esm/esp count and load order too ?
traison Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 (edited) Unfortunately I don't see any reason why it wouldn't show up in RaceMenu, if we assume there isn't some version issue here (SE RM on AE). Also if you "downgraded" SE to 1.6.* you actually upgraded to AE. Unless you meant that its an inferior version, but lets not get those 2 things confused. The hairstyles appear to be limited to male characters and whatever HeadPartsArgonianandVampire [FLST:000A8039] means in practice. I would assume Argonians and Argonian vampires, or only Argonian vampires. Other than that I got nothing. Edit: Unless RM actually checks the nif files and there's a conflict in formats (SE nifs on AE). Seems quite unlikely though, I would assume it would just ctd. Also, don't recall hearing about hair nif format changes in AE. Edit: Install another hair mod such as KS Hairdo's, or if you already have another pack installed, make sure it is visible in RM. Is this issue limited only to the argonian mod? Edited September 23, 2022 by traison

Is this issue limited only to the argonian mod? First off, thank you for the in depth reply and help. I have another mod which adds other Argonian hair and those ones are present, just not the HDT ones Yes I am using AE, I assume that may be the source of the issue? Is there a way to update the mod to work with the 1.6 build? I have of course made sure the mod is enabled and has the highest priority and all that. Interesting you mention the head part, would that potentially be the issue? Just a guess but could it be conflicting with High Poly Head (which I am using)? As far as I know I don't have any mods which modify argonians. Is it possible to add an argonian tag to the mod in SSEdit? Edited September 24, 2022 by jrm0409
traison Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 (edited) The thing is, if you open the esp in xEdit you'll see that all it really does is add new HDPT records. For example there's no form list they have to belong to, that could have a conflict with another mod; no quest with a script etc. So it pretty much comes down to the DATA, RNAM and MODL records I'd say. I suppose you could open the working hair mod and the argonian/smp one and compare them in xEdit. If there's differences for instance in the RNAM or DATA records then copy them over from the working one. You could even go as far as copying the MODL record over from a working HDPT record, just to rule out anything being wrong with the esp itself. You could disable smp temporarily, or remove the xml file that came with the hair mod to rule out any potential issues with smp. Edit: This seems very unlikely, I wouldn't do this myself at this point. I only mention this because its a part of the mod, and as long as we have no leads we may as well fiddle with everything to see if something changes for better or worse. I doubt high-poly heads are an issue. Worst I remember seeing with those kinds of mods is that they make hair clip into the head because the head is larger. You can disable the mod and test if you suspect it though. You could also go into the ingame console and do "help <hair name> 4" and make sure the HDPT records actually show up in-game. Seems you can use either the FULL or the EDID records for this search. If not then the issue is in the esp (as in its not being loaded). Edited September 24, 2022 by traison
