The fear of failure is extremely annoying and not realistic (and the fear of unfulfilled dreams is broken I guess?)

Since the devs implemented this "fear of failure" thingy, my game is ruined for the most part.

 

Whenever I create a Sim and let them practice painting (because which different methods are there to practice painting other than painting?) they will obviously craft a poor quality painting, since they start at zero painting skill, like every single human being in real life.

 

Once they craft the poor quality painting, there's literally a 99% chance that they will get the fear of failure, at least in my game.

Out of 4 sims on zero painting skill, 3 of them got the fear on the first painting while the fourth one got it on the second painting!

 

This is bad because, according to the description of the fear, the sims will actually make worse craftables while they have this fear.

 

I actually purchased the potion to remove the fear, on one of the sims for which I farmed a few points by fulfilling wants before letting her paint for the first time.

Once purchased, I've let the sim drink it and selected the "fear of failure" fear. The fear disappeared.

I've then let her paint again and guess what? The fear instantly appeared again once she finished painting.

 

This is very frustrating to say the very least. This is not realistic.

You can't pretend to make a good painting on the first try.

This fear would make sense if the Sim made a lot of poor quality paintings, but getting it on the very first painting painted at level 0 of painting skill? Come on, this is riduculous.

 

About the "unfulfilled dreams" fear, I actually have a Sim for which I'm actively fulfilling wants to farm points.

When I fulfilled a certain want, after fulfilling a lot of wants, the Sim got the fear of unfulfilled dreams once the want got fulfilled.

Is this meant to happen or is this just a bug? Judging by the description of the fear, this must be a bug.

 

What are your thoughts about this? Have you experienced the same thing in your game?

yeah its absolutely terrible. for a while now ive had to play with 'wants and fears' turned off. whats even more annoying is even that is bugged (or perjaps working as intended) and you have to disable it every time you load the game or go into CAS and back. if youre unsure how, just go into game settings and even if its already unchecked just enable it then disable it and apply/save changes. as i said you have to repeat this every time you load the game, or it reloads after exiting CAS. Some people have reported it even turning itself back on every time they zone.

for me its no loss. i have lots that my sims need to do without constantly having to listen to various genres of music or some other such tedious waste of time. and i simply give them 100k reward points with a cheat and just spend them at what i consider a reasonable level for the time ive played each sim.

Not sure if it works but if you read a Skill book first to get the Skill up  before you do a real painting.

and get inspired by watching some art before painting maybe that can help to prevent the fear.

Yes, reading books works, but it's an insanely slow process. Painting raises the skill much faster.

I tried getting inspired but, eventually, the sim makes a painting that is slightly below average and they get the fear. It's so annoying.

what about try to get the self confident buff before painting?

(brushing teeth or using a mirror) maybe that can reduce the chane of getting this fear of failure trait... at least it would make sense if it works that way

I doubt it, but still it doesn't make sense even if it worked. There's no reason why any person would "fear failure" at the lowest skill level when trying to do something they can't do (yet).

I just modded fears out completely. My sim became afraid of the dark and then overcame the fear 3 times in 1 week, the whole system is horribly tuned.

Omg I hate the fears system. My vampire sim had a fear of the dark. Another sim always has a fear of unfulfilled desires, it's very very annoying! Im handle with this fear but after a short time it comes back again. The same thing with the fear of unloved work because according to my scenario sim loves her work however the game says it's not and this fear comes back again and again.

This is completely unrealistic .-_-.
